I have an introductory interview with a recruiter in a few days, what key things should I prepare before then?

Post history implies you are trying to break into sales/SDR roles.

Introductory interviews - speak to your professional experience, have a good reason why you want to join and believe you are fit (research). Have a few questions prepared as well.

Use the search bar for more interview advice, there are plenty of posts on this.

Yes I am doing that as well, you can never have too much information or be too prepared.

Disagree. Don’t fake something you don’t have any knowledge or expertise about.

Speak into who you are as a person, what type of work motivates you, value you bring to a team.

Fake it til you make it is NOT the play. Be humble but driven.

Founding BDR
Have a good rehearsed 30 second/minute spiel that let’s them get some insight into why you’d be good in sales. Brief research on the company/company culture will also put you ahead of 99% of the competition.

Based on a previous comment it seems like you have little no experience - I would not shy away from this.

In fact, I would actively point it out but counteract with why someone like you would be a better fit than someone with experience

Example:
“I’m aware that you probably have some great candidates with more experience than me, however, if it’s okay with you, I’d love to explain why I think I may be a great fit.

In your job description, you mentioned you wanted someone hungry, mouldable and prepared to put in the activity. From my experience of speaking with experienced BDRs, they are often looking for AE roles fairly quickly… that’s not something you have to worry about with someone looking to break into the sector, is hungry and willing to put in the work.

On top of that, I have also done X, Y, Z… to polish up on skill sets (cold call training etc etc)

^^^ this is alll with the caveat that it’s delivered in the right tone, under the right circumstances

Good luck.

That's funny because I put something to this effect in a LI message to the recruiter, she responded by saying "like the proactive approach" and booked me in. I guess you just have to do it.

Nail down your tell me about yourself or walk me through your resume and come prepared with a few questions about the company not about the role and numbers bc most don’t know

Be able to articulate how your experience aligns with the ideal candidate. Use what’s on the job description for guidance and confirm the top 3 skills they are looking for early in the call

Learn about the company and have a polished response to why you, why them.. also make sure your story is up to snuff, why are you leaving your current job? what are your achievements? etc.

If you prep on these things and can sell yourself you should make it through 100% of recruiter screens

Be ready to never speak to the recruiter again after the call. They turn into ghosts after the first conversation.

During this preparation, I have seen many pieces about mock calls that happen in the process. At what stage does this happen?

After you speak to the hiring manager usually.

Typical process:

Interview 1 - Recruiter (general overview, they are looking for motivated, hungry people to forward to the Hiring Manager

Interview 2 - Hiring Manager (they’ll ask about experience, assets, weaknesses, culture

Interview 3 Panel (this is usually where the mock calls happen - multiple people on the call with you asking questions, seeing how you think )

Interview 4 - VP/CRO/ Director (final round usually is to confirm fit and that the VP approved)

Some processes are longer, some shorter

I have done my due diligence and got as much relevant information about the company, I guess one last thing I need to make certain is going into the metrics, since I come from customer service and retentions, the only number closely relevant is the number of calls. Do I bring it up at all or just stick to transferrable skills?
