Is it acceptable to ask a recruiter that you have an interview with about another position you applied for in the same company?

What are your thoughts on asking a recruiter, during an interview, about a separate position you applied for within the same company? Part of me feels like it's acceptable, but the last thing I want it to seem like is that I'm not interested in the role in which I'm being interviewed for.

Small orgs may just have one recruiter. In which case, you’ve been passed up and unnoticed- best to leave it alone. Big orgs have multiple recruiters in which case this one won’t know what you’re talking about. Either way, no real pain in bringing it up, but no real point either.

Yeah I actually agree with this take. Can't hurt to ask, but have zero expectations.

It is a big org for sure. But very responsive. However, the other role I applied for is something more interesting. I enjoy developing/testing/making products better than they are. Unfortunately, no degree to do it, but some college and some tech stuff. But I really enjoy working with developers/programmers to change softwares etc.

I guess the real question here is which position do you really want?

Loaded question. Applied for both today and one recruiter contacted me within 3 hours to schedule. The other hasn’t reached out yet. I’m also Leary of jobs that have been posted for extensive periods of time.

It sounds as though you have two recruiters and two different ways of working. The first one notice your expeirence and perhaps jump on it and the other has yet to move.
In my opinion when someone searches for a job and they see two positions that their interested in, there's always the one that peaks his/her interest the most.
Which one peaked your interest the most, the one where the recruiter contacted you within 3 hours or the one you have yet to hear from.
If it's the one that called you first, then go for that first one and forget about the other. But if the second is the one you want, then continue with the process and wait it out.
Personally I see no need to ask about the one that has yet to contact you. This is only my opinion. All the best.

I wouldn’t tell the recruiter unless the company plans to offer you either job.

Yes however it would likely be under another recruiter so they will prioritize the one you are currently talking about

And you almost need to make it clear you are 100% bought in for the other role because of xyz

What do you think the best way to address it is? It's a phone interview.

Kind of my thought, too. As in “hey I did a deep dive and a bunch of research” type of thing.

You’re an SVP of Sales and you’re asking if this question is appropriate?

Horizontal vs lateral move type of deal.

Also, titles aside. SVPs have recruiters doing most of the heavy lifting. Not to sound cocky, but we have much more on our plates to handle rather than field questions by interviewees. Prime example for my current position - recently had a meeting with the CEO and execs of Honeywell. Then another with Johnson Controls. So those are my heavy lifting jobs. Lastly, I make it well known in my company that we have a horizontal level of hierarchy, and give my AEs the ability come up with new ideas, not just sales. Promoting out of the box thinking fosters growth while helping my employees develop personally and professionally. The kind of thing you can’t put down on a resume.

I feel like it’s okay to do it, or just ask it in a different way too. Like ask about lateral movements in the computer or growth path and if that job would be an option to go go down the road cause you’re more interested in that position

Yeah, I’m trying to figure out the best way to word it/timing to bring it up in the interview. They’ve already given me the materials and basic questions about the role, as well as a time frame on how long the interview will last. I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to slip it in during my interview, but I don’t want it to come off the wrong way. I’m thinking about mentioning one of their pre-interview questions, and using it in my favor to bring up the topic. In my eyes, when I have done interviews for hiring in the past (which was a while ago), it shows that I prepared for it, and am using their own material to guide the interview in the direction I want it to go. I’ve just never had an interviewee ask me something like this, so I’m perplexed on how to handle it.

Yeah I’d just don’t directly tell them. Let them figure it out, bring it up in a way that shows you’re still interested in the job they are interviewing you for

Yes also I think it has to do with the company if this is your dream company and everything’s great then yeah. If it’s just another company and that would be nice but not the dream company you’re overthinking it and just ask them directly

So it could go either way honestly. This company is fantastic, very large, publicly traded, and a great resume builder or permanent career choice. Ideally, Salesforce is my dream company, but 2+ months of application being “In Consideration” and countless attempts to reach a recruiter has lead me to this company by accident actually.
