Landed a position with linkedIn!

Hi Savages,

After four grueling months of interviewing and getting nowhere, I've been offered by two companies. I've chosen LinkedIn over a pretty small niche company.

Heres the thing. I'm taking a few thousand less on my base and technically starting on their SMB team which is a step back for me. But weighing the options I think LinkedIn gives me and my family the best future and will be the best on a resume.

Just looking for a little external validation here really.. Did I make the right call?

The other company is really the only one in their space. It's a travel platform for creators and influencers to host trips with their fans to top destinations. It seemed like it may be a fun place to work but honestly selling to influencers sounds insufferable.

Let me know what you think, and thank you!

LinkedIn is a great company and I’ve always wanted to work there as well! What was the interview process like for SMB AE? Did you have to do a mock demo or an assignment?

Both actually. They condensed 2 interviews into one as well because they were trying to streamline everything.

It was a lot of work but nothing too crazy!

Congratulations! And you made the right call. I can’t imagine company 2 having any staying power over time, and the clientele sounds beyond tedious and entitled.

The other company will either fold or have to fire 80% of their sales team within 12 months. Good decision.

No hon bun! Anything for creators and influencers kind of scares me. LinkedIn - I would vote for.

Definitely right move with LinkedIn. I've tried my hand at the small start ups, and have found my career grew a lot bigger working for the more reputable brands. Plus, LinkedIn office perks are second to none. Crush it!

I would never wish my worst enemy to sell to "creators" or "influencers"

You absolutely made the correct choice. As I was reading, I had already been leaning that direction pretty hard; when I got to the “for creators and influencers to…” I fell out of my chair in the direction of the LinkedIn option. Influencer marketing is pretty ineffective outside of CPG, fashion, and consumer tech. Travel influencers are also extreme cheapskates. I’m talkin more stingy than my Jewish grandmother on triple-coupon Thursday at the big box grocery.

You're right, congrats on LinkedIn! I'm in the same boat.. I have the mock interview with SMB LI today, wish me luck! Hope to see you on the other side.

On the hunt for a new AE role. Should I be blasting out tons of applications? Connecting directly with hiring managers on Linkedin?
