Manic Manager

how do you deal with a maniac of a manager? my team of ae's, including myself, are all significantly above quota. our manager has anger outbursts during team calls cause we're "not doing enough", tracks our calls and emails more closely than the most micro-manager you've probably ever known, and is never accountable for relaying false information even when they're called on.

i won't speak for everyone on my team but i know i'm significantly burnt out from it. the company is great, has product name recognition and the money is generous.

with 2022 approaching, i don't know if staying is worth it. what would you do?

I’d definitely look at what’s out there, but always be very picky about where you end up. Never want to leave one bad situation for another by jumping at the first opportunity that comes your way

If I wana stay, I'll discuss this rather than getting exhausted. Life is more than money.

Honestly, the job market is hot right now. If that person is making you miserable, you can leave or hope that the rest of the company sees it and they get canned.

does your company do 360 reviews? Blast em in it

Or ask for coffee with your manager's boss and bring it up verbally.

If the situation is as bad as it sounds, you're not the only one thinking of jumping ship. And your manager's boss won't want a bunch of AEs who are putting dollars in their pocket to leave

I would do this, but I would first interview and secure another offer. Then you could tell the manager's boss that you would love to stay, but that the manager is making it not worth staying.

With a company your size, is there the possibility of a lateral transfer to another manager?

Your boss is the most important thing. I’ve had incredible bosses at shitty jobs and stayed.
My suggestion is to bounce my friend. And at the next place grill your manager to understand who they are

I have been at places where the manager is like this. On one side I was killing it and making more money than I had in prior jobs, on the other I had a boss that was very demanding and would micro manage everything.

If you have the ability to just brush everything the manager says of your shoulder and just collect the cash do it.

If not bail.

If you're above attainment it means you can sell. Companies will pay a lot for that, and they won't get in your way like your current manager. Fuck em. Get out.
