My boss quit, how do I convince HIS boss to hire me instead of an outside person

I work in a "high growth" Saas company. My boss just quit last week and I have a feeling they want to hire a replacement person. We a a small team 2 AE 1 SDR.

Industry knowledge is key, and hard to find which I have, but I am still newer to the org (1.5 years)

How would you go about convincing the power at be that you are the best choice?

Do you have the performance to back it up? If so make a simple facts based case for yourself and let them know you want to take on that responsibility. Show them you are the best candidate and are more valuable in that next role than the one you are currently in.

I tend to prefer hiring internally if I can so this is a great opportunity to advocate for yourself and show that you are in it for the long haul.

Agreed, you got to star displaying some leadership skills for them to trust that that you can handle a team (like your boss did so far)

You dont. 10:1 they "see" you as whatever role you currently are at right now.

You gotta leave to do an upgrade.

Now - ***not always*** but imo you have to take those results and show them to a new group who might be looking for a boost and someone with that experience.

Its like many social groups. Where you enter the ladder is where you'll be "seen" at for most of your time there.

If you want to make moves - make moves.

Hell - if you work remote, do both jobs for 6 weeks and see which one you prefer.

Tell them you're interested and ask them. Almost all managers appreciate someone who is willing to ask for what they want (that's our job basically, right?)

Ask for the close, if you can prove your worth on both performance and intangibles.
