Ugh yep. A few weeks ago when I was mid call my PC had a lil message pop up saying that my computer WILL restart in 12 minutes for an update...no option to defer or anything. I had to rush through the call so it didn't disconnect mid sentence.

Dude.

Grrrrrr.

Went through that nonsense last week. Today I'm in password change hell. I feel your pain.

I often question how we're in 2021 and the IT answer to everything (and 9/10 it actually works) is "reboot your computer."

"Is it plugged in?"

But yes, "have you tried rebooting?" as the first question.   So tempted to answer with:  "Why no, I simply hadn't thought of that!"

@Sunbunny31 It's actually shocking how many people DON'T restart their computer first... Again, 2021 why in the fuck do we even have to do that? 😂🤔😭

But hey, my laptop weighs SO LITTLE, so at least we fixed one problem!

Agreed, it's amazing to me how some tech is so phenomenal and other tech is just stuck in the 90s.  :)

Some would say my laptop is light as air. It's phenomenal. Doesn't even matter that half the updates don't work and if they do, it takes 5 hours 41 minutes and 36 seconds to update!!!

It's almost like they solved a problem that didn't need solving as much as another problem that needed solving.  Almost.

Speaking of tech from the 90s can we all agree that printers sucked 20 years ago and still suck now?

YES.

But - my HP, that was such a freaking brat for the past three years when I tried to use it with my previous employer's work laptop - is completely behaving itself now with my new employer's laptop and works flawlessly.   Hmmmmm.

You laugh but it happens a lot. I am not an IT person, but I had to take care of some specialised equipment whose own support was in France. Every morning I’d get a call of “but draculina, we can’t work it!” so I would go down to the operation field, restart it, and got treated like a magician. Nobody even thought of that, even though I literally repeatedly told them.

I dont understand why we dont live in a world where they can just push updates over the air between 2 am and 6am every day.

They can do anything else to our work laptops, why isnt this a thing.

They actually can, lol. But your company has to have an RMM agent, the right policies in place, and your PC has to be powered on and “awake”.
Obviously I used to sell this Agent in a last life.

Agreed. Especially those of us who work in technology sales in some way, you would want to think our own IT departments would be up to speed on the latest and greatest...

But hey if a client had that problem we could probably sell them x to fix it.

Pretty much sucks. I was in the middle of a demo and my laptop restarted, and the best part was it's never went beyond the logo. Fortunately, my colleague saved my ass by doing a demo on my behalf.

My work computer was/is a Win PC. I am a Mac gal myself. My Mac went without being turned off for at least five months. No issues. I only restarted it for security updates. Same with my PC, it has an SSD but it goes slow. I call IT and the IT guy who knows me well asks me about the uptime. It was around a few weeks. Solution: “Restart, and turn it off every once in a while.” I still hate the fact that he was right lol. I mean Windows, get it together.

My computer randomly started disconnecting from the internet a couple weeks ago. Kicked out of demos, discoveries, proposals...you name it.

IT's answer for 3 weeks was "update your drivers", "turn it off and back on", "is your computer up to date", "are you sure you're connected to the right internet"

Finally got them to admit it was a computer issue and had to turn over my laptop for 3 hours. Just long enough to get a loaner up and running, but not long enough to be productive on the loaner.

Google forced me to change my password for “security reasons”.
.
Which is a diff password than my laptop, which is diff from my iCloud (I’m taking all work accounts)
.
I couldn’t remember it 3 mins before a customer meeting was supposed to start. I be trippin. I remembered just in time.
.
Hate it. Especially hate the dual-factor authentication bullshit.
