SDR to AE Advice

Hey guys, I hit 100% of my team (3 sdrs) QTD goal and hit 180% QTD personal quota - 7 months in.

I’m coming in with already 2 years of SDR - AE - Senior AE but at a non-tech background + personal reasons I.e needing to be remote drove me to take this role.

I have my promotion path meeting on Friday where I want to discuss getting paid more + path to promotion.

They gave me a 3% but since I am over performing, interviewing and helping build their SDR function I feel I deserve more in short term and a big bump when I go AE.

My SDR manny asked the co-founder and he said no pay increases until AE promotion in Q3

Reasons for Q3:
- I am the only SDR, the other one quit and the only one left is my sales dev. manager
- they want the SDR to SDR for a year

Any advice to 1. Increase compensation before promotion and 2. Get commitment of a actual date rather than a “Q3” loose commitment

I’m asking for 1. An exact promotion date 2. The ability to run sales start to finish if I hit 100% quota 3. AE comp now vs then
Any thoughts on this?

Exact dates are hard to guarantee, I would never guarantee anything like that.  If I were you id base my comp on once you hit quota your commission percent should skyrocket, like 3% to 7% or something like that, that could help and be realistic.  Asking for AE pay for SDR work is tough, they should just make you an AE then tbh.

I hope you get it, but I wouldn't grant it, in really any circumstance.  That being said Id never have a stupid ass policy that doesn't promote my best people either.

Wanting an outperforming SDR to be in the role for an arbitrary time period is BS so that's a fob off. Q to ask yourself - if there are only 2 or 3 SDRs how many AEs do they actually need? Would promoting you in Q3 to gain an AE at the cost of a good SDR be a good decision for them?

As you mentioned a series C in the mix I would imagine they NEED to scale the team up. I would polish up your sales pitch and say WHY YOU WHY NOW?

You're a series B company now correct? Do you have a structured sales processes? Do your AEs not run the sales start to finish? Or am I misunderstanding and you just don't want to work with your SDRs?

Series b / AEs run from intro call following SDR outbound or inbound. I am a current SDR on the cusp on AE promotion. (I.e burned tf out)
