For anyone who may be wondering if this is or isn’t true; the answer is yes, it is true.
It is ofc a result of confirmation bias, and the fact that age/experience/leadership/hair-loss all kind of go together, but sociologists speculate that there is something to do with the bald head that commands authority, or has begun to be associated with authority. And no that wasn’t a gag-line.
It may have something to do with the idea that militaristic men shave their heads, or maintain clean buzz cuts in order to create a close-quarter combative advantage, and this trickled into people correlating being bald to “alpha”power/machismo. It may also have to do with the fact that bald men who are bald by frequently frequently have a rough and practical approach to life, and may therein be the “leader” type.
Also, it was stated as a just a joke, but I knew what he meant. A business associate from Turkey who is a senior leader at a F200 entity joked about how “if you want to be a big man over there, you have to have this hair style”. He walked in with his GM of the Turkish operation who is a bald American, who lives and works in Turkey, but speaks no Turkish.
There are a lot of false positives in this one, but for the record, statistically an unusual number of bald men feature in leadership roles. Statistically this does not apply to bald women, though there is evidence to suggest that bald women command greater authority amongst women, but it’s yet to be really tracked or proven.
