Side Hustle Probs

Curious to hear the group's take on this: I work fully remote in tech sales, and have been craving some in-person interaction, so started a side weekend job at a fitness/recovery studio on the weekends, really just for fun.

Is it appropriate to share this at work? If it got around to my manager, wouldn't want them to think that it's somehow distracting or taking away from my performance at my real job, even though it's just on weekends.

I think the fact that's it's on the weekends clearly indicates it won't interfere.
However, I wouldn't go around advertising it, but that's just me.

Yeah I wouldn't openly advertise it as well. No need to conceal it, but sometimes management can view these kinds of activities in a negative light. Stupid, but you should be prepared.

I got burned by this at my last role for literally sharing to a colleague that I like to trade and meet once a month with a group of friends to discuss investing ideas.
"Sounds like your focus is elsewhere" was the garbage that can out of my then manager's mouth, 7 years my junior lol.
Like yeah I'm trying to get the fuck out of here.

100% this.
Nothing wrong with it, but nothing to be gained by talking about it.

I don't think you need to mention it as the industry is completely different

They don't need to know!! if something goes wrong and you don't make quota they might use that to make a point.

I’ll say it depends completely on your management. Really shouldn’t be an issue, but will your manager think it’s taking time away from your job?

It shouldn’t matter at all. Many people have unrelated side projects or jobs. Good for you for recognizing something you personally need in order to be connected.

Do No mention this to anyone. There is no benefit and only downside risk. If people see you or ask you about it, call it a weekend hobby at best.

I do the same. I work for my city’s parks and rec dept during the winter doing some guiding. I tell everyone. They think it’s cool.

Always think it's best to keep side hustles as just that, your personal additional rev stream.
Should you ever falter, they have a reason to think you're focusing elsewhere.

Just a small heads up, if you are on payroll and for whatever reason the full time gig lets you go, you will not qualify for unemployment having the side job. Happened to me before with a 10 hour gym job and my main income source was gone but that side job unqualified me for unemployment. Again check it out, just a heads up from personal exp
