This deal took 7 months from when I was introduced to close, but was a company target for 4 years...victory!
I nurtured the relationship with the key players and kept it top of mind with emails and voicemails, and sending non-work holiday cheer via email.
I worked alongside my CEO, whose visionary ideas were well-accepted throughout the process; I made sure everything was captured on paper and then recited back each time. Scoping documentation was extremely thorough and set us up for success in other deals that require similar documentation.
The big lesson was that I could have better communicated the agreements made during the negotiations to the deal-desk, who ended up sending an incorrect invoice (which was luckily easily corrected). Also, in working with the deal-desk, I would have set better timeline expectations with them, so that I didn't have to hassle them into finishing our legal review on-time.
It's been a while since I closed an enterprise deal so this was a sweet and much-needed way to start 2023 for both me and the company, and to restart our winning streak.
