Thoughts on getting the position.

Some may have followed other posts of mine.

I work in the R&D tax credit space and was approached by a competitor a month in for a massive raise. They decided to hold off hiring till q1 of 24 and asked I reach back out then.

My current employer is hesitant to sign exclusive referral partnership deals. I have the attention of a sizeable HCM/payroll company who is eager to partner with me to help their reach for their clients as far as service offerings.

They are not attracted to the fact that we offer a referral fee, they are attracted to the potential of us referring them payroll clients as we are out there requesting payroll information to process the credits.

Lots of simple ways I could generate the referrals that are creative but I am not in a huge position refer enough business by myself for all 2000 agents they have that could refer to us ( I know likely not all 2k would but still).

They even offered one scenario of some they are partnering with that could not only be a client for me but also they could potentially refer around 250 potential clients themselves since they are a direct sell to the market.

I am worried that my current employer is gonna prioritize hundreds of small payroll companies that we dont even know of yet over one large whale...there are lots of ways to get this to fruition but, I think there are too lost in the trees to see the forest.

Should I reach out to the competitor, let them know I got a partner willing to work with me, and this one aspect of 200 potential clients? The competitor wants to target larger companies than my existing one but still, a lot of littles add up.

The way I’m reading this, you’re asking about two different things.

One is how to get a new position with your competitor, that isn’t currently open. The other is about how to manage something new in your current position.

I’d work this current role and opportunity the best you can, and reach out to the competitor regarding the disposition of the potential role. Once that is actually available, then you can decide what to do.
