Thoughts on the Current State of College Football

With UT and Oklahoma wanting to YEET out of the Big 12 (and a potential law banning the longhorns from doing so, See link attached.), I sense there's going to be a massive shakeup in college football as we know it. I personally think colleges might end up switching conferences a whole lot more in the next decade. How do y'all think college football is going to change?

https://www.texastribune.org/2021/07/23/texas-legislature-ut-big-12-sec/ Texas lawmakers file bill to block UT-Austin from leaving Big 12 for SEC The move is largely symbolic as the legislative session has been ground to a halt by the quorum-busting Democrats who fled Texas 11 days ago. Even if the Democrats returned, Abbott would have to add the item to his special session agenda for it to have a chance at passing.

This story aside, I think college athletes should be paid. NCAA is evil

The NCAA is evil. But college football is awesome. I abstained last year due to COVID (I thought it was bullshit that games were played) but I'm stoked for it this year.

Well at least they got the likeness. Dunno about schools directly paying athletes, but being able to have a Jersey commission makes some sense at least

Only way private schools (not Notre Dame) stand a chance anymore lol!

UT has always been hilarious. Try not losing to TCU, Baylor, Iowa State and Maryland on a consistent basis before you consider moving to the SEC.

After the whole โ€œhorns downโ€ penalty thing and NOW moving to the SEC, I wouldnโ€™t be surprised if they just make their own league to be ranked #1 in something

Lmao! Theyโ€™re just so soft. I love the Big 12 always bending backwards for Texas and then they do this. Who cares theyโ€™re mediocre at best now.

Itโ€™s going to be interesting to see what the Big Ten does to respond. Try and raid the ACC, or a super conference with the PAC 12?ย

My guess is theyโ€™ll split the PAC-12 into two divisions if more schools want to look west. Might make sense to have an SEC-type model.

We're probably looking at 4 16 team conferences at some point, however as a Big Ten fan who hates our current commissioner, we'll probably add 2 JV teams to the conference

My prediction:

Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and Utah move to what becomes the PAC whatever. They will be neither a cultural nor academic fit but the move will still happen because the PAC 12 (as of today) doesn't want to become irrelevant. If they drop the academic standards to admit these schools, don't be surprised to see Boise State join the PAC as well. Colorado State could also be a good option if they don't want to drop the standards quite that low. (No offense to anybody who went to those schools intended. It's just that getting into a solid chunk of the PAC 12 schools is fucking ridiculous.)

Iowa, Kansas and probably K-State move to the Big 10.

WVU tries to go the ACC.

Baylor/TCU end up with nowhere to go and end up in a G5 conference (my guess would be the American or Mountain West).

The crazy part of this is the other eight Big 12 schools put themselves in this position. Remember a few years back when Houston, Colorado State, UCF and a few others wanted to join the Big 12? They could've swollen their ranks to as large as 14. Then, this would be a blow but not the lethal one it is today.

If we (TCU) end up in the MWC again please put me on a suicide watch lol. We beat the shit out of Texas regularly since joining only for them to end up in the SEC and us in G5, that's a no for me!

I just don't see any way out of it for y'all. Your AD/President should be getting ready to cash in every possible favor.

Oh absolutely, but this is the perpetual problem for smaller private schools - we lack the national cache. While we have often been among the best two teams in Texas our fan base is not even in the top three.ย

I have a feeling we will return to a strong non conference schedule, beat the crap out of our conference (one Colorado State fan taunted us in Fort Collins that we only won by 34 and we should've won by way more than that) and hope for a good bowl game.

As the CFP committee illustrated in 2014 - college football is a business.

Oh yeah, the Big 12 got fucking hosed in 2014. Y'all should've been in that year.

At some point we also all have to ask what the point of all of this is. And for TCU, if you're going to get dicked around, maybe the answer is "yeah, we're good at sports but we took $5M from sports and built a fucking water park instead. Applications are climbing."

lol! If you did blind resume let's do this:

12-1
conference champions, lost to a top 5 team on the road
*on a field goal as clock ran out that the Big 12 admitted there were two blown calls and the zebras were suspended for three games following

12-1ย
conference champions, lost to a top 25 team on the road

12-1
conference champions, lost to an unranked team at home

Credit to OSU - they got a shot they didn't deserve but they sure as Hell took it and we just dick slapped Ole Miss all up and down Atlanta.

LMAO! We definitely have the room (and need) for a quality water slide in the middle of campus.

I feel like TCU, Baylor, and Tech would end up in the PAC 12 before Oklahoma State. Yeah theyโ€™re small, but an influx of Californians into TX is a growing market. Not sure if I can say the same about Oklahoma. What would you think about splitting the pac 12 into 2 divisions, like a โ€œcoastโ€ (CA, OR, WA, maybe fit in AZ too.) and a โ€œMidwest/southโ€ with whatever schools can fight their way in?

Texas and Oklahoma are in for a world of hurt. Texas hasnโ€™t been good in a while but Oklahoma is done being a consistent top 5ish team if they make the SEC move
