Titan Sub

Unless you live under a rock you know about the titan sub.

There are a multitude of storylines to this and several of them have become the butt end of jokes and memes on the internet.

When I open tiktok there is a mix between british reporters and comedy accounts.

I guess the question I have is do you feel bad for these billionaires trapped under sea right now?

Utterly horrifying. Especially seeing an animation and description of what the implosion would have entailed. At least it was quick

Yeah, donโ€™t even know that they felt the implosion with how fast it is said to have happened. Scary stuff

Itโ€™s a horrifying situation that seems to be, in part, the result of hubris.

Should serve as a cautionary tale.

That's what happens when you "don't hire white guys in their 50s" who also happen have the experience you'd REALLY want when you're down 13,000 feet under the sea....

Or when you're managing a multi-billon dollar business.

Not saying only white guys can do those things, far from it. You hire the person with the right experience when experience counts. Like when you're 13,000 ft under the ocean.

Hard for me to feel sorry about someone (woke people) who's sucking on hubris's teet.

Doesnโ€™t matter who you hire if you cut safety corners when you build something like this. If youโ€™re going to spend 1/4th of everyone else AND get letters and e-mails from other divers who say your shit is unsafe and dangerous, it doesnโ€™t matter.

How much money does one have to have in order to lose the sympathy of humanity?

Yeah, I mean I'm sympathetic to how horrifying it must be in the vessel right now. I guess where I see tons of jokes being made is in regards to the fact that they knew the risks and how they're at a diving depth where more humans have been to space then.

Imagine if social media existed when the Titanic originally went down? A couple thousand rich people go down in an unsinkable ship.

Yeah, I mean the majority of people that went down were unfortunately the poorer classes. The rich ones made it onto the lifeboats

Only about 30% of the passengers survived. The impact was certainly disproportionate across social classes but plenty of very wealthy folks went down with the ship. This includes one of the wealthiest men in the world at the time; John Jacob Astor. Plenty of other high net worth examples as well plus the designer of the ship itself.

Thanks for the excuse to nerd out on a bit of history :)

I feel for all of them. Itโ€™s horrifying. But itโ€™s also why I would never voluntarily go for a sub dive on anything more substantial than the subs at Disney.

Iโ€™m not even going on the subs at Disney, Iโ€™m out.

Well, I wonโ€™t need to go on them again - been there, done that when the kids were wee ones. They never fully submerge, so it seemed ok at the time.

Ironically, my great grandfather was a sub commander during WWI. He was terrible, though - relieved of command at one point, and evidently used in training for what not to do, so I come by it honestly.

You know who I feel bad for, I feel bad for the 19 year old son of the Pakistani billionaire on board. The rest I could care less about.
