Two week notice!

Yes, I have read all the articles on the war room about giving two week notice ๐Ÿ˜œ I understand be professional and don't burn any bridges BUT my only concern is something going wrong with the offer for the other company. I've seen time and time again. Notice given, Covid or budget or background and the offer disappears and your current employer won't take you back. Luckily this has never happened to me but I've seen it enough with co workers and friends that this scare the shit out of me. Is it just me or do y'all have this fear as well lolย

Tricky if youโ€™re not always working remotely, but certainly gives some assurances

Just get your laptop and access sent to you before you start. Then put in notice. They usually cut you early anyway.

I just can't imagine any company rescinding an offer (written) unless it was for just cause (e.g. didn't pass a drug test, lied on their resume, etc.). If you've been given a written offer with a start date, passed your background checks, etc. I wouldn't sweat it. Very unlikely you would be in this situation. Also-- if you want to ensure you get a good recommendation (in the future) from your soon to be former employer, don't leave them on bad terms. Any new employer would and should expect there to be a two week resignation notice to your former employer and should plan their start date with you accordingly. I wouldn't risk the negative impact with the company you are leaving for the off chance you wouldn't start the new role.

The latest one I saw was a buddy gave notice and Covid hit. The other company took back their offer after already passing background, offer letter etc. He came back and my manager at the time said all well lol. Baby on the way and everything smh

Have often have you seen this happen? Typically, it's not the norm.

Think for the best and plan for the worst I guess.

I'm an outlier in that I had a great relationship with my manager at my previous employer, who knew I was looking and supported it. We were restructuring territories, I helped with the plan, and I took a placeholder role at an undesirable place until my offer letter was signed and my background check cleared. And before y'all get all excited about why that was an issue, it was due to me not being able to find my diploma (it's somewhere stored safely and I couldn't remember where) and having to go to my university, which was on light staffing due to Covid, so it took a while to prove that I had the degree.

I wasn't cut right away, I had access all the way up to my final date - although I'd already copied over important info I would need, like the sign in for archived payroll, etc.

I honestly didn't expect the transition to be as smooth as it was, and certainly won't expect it in the future, so prepare to be exited immediately. And usually your manager doesn't collaborate as much and as helpfully with your plans to leave, so I'd not take this as anything other than a fable about how a company SHOULD behave to its departing employees.

This is exactly how companies should work!! Unfortunately Iโ€™ve seen the worst from some of the top companies and that haunts me.

Has this happened with co-workers at your current place? Where just putting in a notice burns the bridge?

Do they just let you go immediately once your notice is in?

Last time I put in two weeks, that's exactly what happened. Although, that's because they were planning on laying off my entire team the following week lol

When to give notice can be a daunting question. When to give it? You want to be professional but you know your current company can easily be very unprofessional.

You need to do whatโ€™s best for you at the end of the day. If your current employer has a history of โ€œdifficult partingsโ€ than I would give notice and be gone. If they take it in stride, you can tell them that you have accepted an offer and youโ€™re willing to help with current account transfers, etc.

Have you seen this happen since Covid went away?

I've seen people have their interview process cut short but don't personally know anyone that signed an offer, had a start date and then revoked.

Not since Covid. Still spooky. Last thing anyone wants is to have two jobs and end up with none.

A notice shouldn't be given unless the start date of the training and the 1st day at work to be scheduled and certainly having the access card to the new company's full utilities!
