Ways to "close" interviews?

Trying to have a few options to pull from

My go-to is "Do you have any hesitations about me moving forward in this process? If so, I want to address them now."

It's always gone well, but I'm looking for a variety and would love suggestions!

I stole this from someone on LinkedIn. Can't remember who but I like it. I've only used it twice and a VP and CRO LOVED it. Two different companies and they both said no one has ever asked that and that they love it and want to steal it.

"What excites you about me potentially joining the team?"

If you want to tie it more into actually closing, I'd try "I have a two part question, at this point would you have any reservations about me fitting into the role? If not, what excites you the most about me joing the team?".

If you think you killed the interview, I would totally go with the two parter.

That's what I usually use.
Another option is: can you outline the rest of the process?

i think a nice tweak to that would be, can you outline the rest of the process and would you recommend I move on to the next step?

I would combine the too. Asking for any hesitations (i wouldn’t ask to address them now, just ask if there any) and then ask about the rest of the process.

On internal interviews our VP gets almost annoyed if people don’t go for a hard close since it’s usually at a closer point of decision making. “Is there anything stopping you from moving forward with an offer now?”

I highly recommend asking for advice, rather than feedback or hesitations. Has more of a positive spin so they will be more honest and helpful

Great call! I’ve done that especially when interviewing with others that would be on my team or others that report up to my hiring manager and it’s been a great way to get to know how collaborative and helpful the team is and also what they think the hiring manager expects from people

I'm a bug fan of "if it ain't broke don't fix it" so in your case if it is working then why change, also hopefully you don't have to interview all that often where you feel you need variety, interviewing blows

Idk lol my fear is people compare notes and maybe ask which questions they asked others and judge if they are the same, though this is one that I guess would have a unique answer per conversation

I’ve typically asked what their hiring process looks like. You can gather a lot from this question. If they’re interested they’ll walk you through their intended nexts steps. In my opinion, asking if they have any “concerns” makes it sound like you aren’t as confident as you should be in providing them with a rockstar performer. Confidence (not arrogance) is always a plus— especially in a sales role. Just remember.. you’re interviewing them as much as they are interviewing you. Finally, if you are feeling good about the conversation I would suggest letting them know you like what you hear and follow up with asking them what their thoughts are on continuing the conversation. A trial close essentially. Best of luck!

Asking about next steps is always good. Nailing down their process is good too.

That's a good one. I always ask why I would not be a good fit. Seems direct, however, searching for a no is how you get to a yes.

Interesting. I have always thought that question about hesitations moving forward would put a negative thought in someones head. I will give it a shot later this afternoon ;)

I always ask a similar question about whether there's anything you feel like my application is lacking that I could address now. Most of the time they say no, everything looks great! And then they don't make an offer. I like the other suggestions on this thread though, especially "what excites you most about me potentially joining the team"!

In an interview that's gone well and for a job I think I actually want, I've always used something along the lines of: "After our discussion today and learning so much positive about each other, I really think this seems like a great fit. Do you have any remaining questions or reservations about adding me to your team?"

Use the Chris Voss method of encouraging a "no" which is really a "yes." For example, "Given the depth of our conversation, do you see a reason why it shouldn't continue with others who have different viewpoints?"

A lot of this is going to be based on the type of company that you're looking to work with. If it's a legacy company like Gartner, I would ask on next steps and hesitations. If it's a startup, asking what excites them about moving you forward/what you bring to the position.
Unfortunately there is no one-size fits all for this question (but super important, and you should always close them).
