That being said, their statement is pretty interesting. They didnt want to do this, but were pressured into it by their payment providers. Which I find interesting because they are taking the platform for a unicorn valuation to effectively nothing.
Tech Crunch was talking about Crypto coming in here to take care of the payment side. It'll be interesting to see if they can pivot, or if someone else slides in, figures out the crypto payment piece and creates the behemoth onlyfans could have been.
The business side of this is going to be interesting to follow for sure.

There are alternative payment providers for this very thing! And you're right, definitely an actual use case for crypto.
Ok, serious question. OnlyFans has a ton of cash, right? Wouldn't in make more fiscal sense to build their own payment structure?
I know nothing about payment processing but something tells me it take a ton of infrastructure to build and there is probably a huge amount of compliance shit that needs to be dealt with as well.

I know a good amount because of what I've sold forever. Yes, ton of infrastructure, ton of money, etc. But I think it would be worth it because a) it wouldn't kick 50%+ of their revenue off of the platform b) they could sell the service to others.

There's a lot of risk (see the NYT reports on Pornhub/MindGeek and Xvideos). Policing OnlyFans is hard enough, I'm sure. You can get sued into oblivion if you don't handle it flawlessly.

My only thinking this is one of their situations where they are “banning it” but still doing a terrible job policing it. Similar to Facebook “banning” fake news ads, but “having a tough time policing them” (uh huh)….
