Working as an AM with CSM

Does anyone work as an AM but report to the CSM side v having a true Sales Manager?

Has anyone worked direct sales and then made the move to CSM, wether the role was CSM, implementation, or something else?

Is the grass any greener, or can it be just as brown or worse delending on the people?

Never made the move. Considered it in my darkest moments but can't fathom taking that much of a pay cut.

My understanding is that when it is all said and done, AM's can still make similar checks to AE's. Youi may get a higher base like an enterprise seller or not. I really haven't seen massive differences yet.

Was just curious if anyone out there had worked directly with CSM teams v Sales Managers and had an opinion of how that is.

Going to disagree. A very tenured CSM may have a base approaching an ENT AE ($150k). However they can't get close to the upside an ENT has.

True, but Enterprise AE's are a very different thing.

If you look at sales as a whole, and you could get your base to where the average OTE lies (around 120-150), then why not?

Because I want to earn more than that!

I haven't made the move. I've considered it before, but I can't take the hunter out of me.

A colleague of mine made the move from AE to CSM and moved from one large company to another when she did so.   She had been unhappy with the sales org and claims she's happier now.

It's just different work.  If you prefer day to day management of customers and most of your quota tied to renewal/happy customers, then it might be for you.

I'm guessing that we have all contemplated it for a split second, but honestly I know I would regret limiting myself in future income and opportunities.
Sales isn't for everyone, which is why we are compensated so much more.
