Advice for a beginner salesman

Hello, Bravado community,

Your boy is just over a month into his first sales role. I began my career in sales straight out of university and have loved it so far. I work for an exciting startup selling legal services. So, a bit different than most.

Is there any advice you can give a man like me looking to grow his skills?

Academy has a ton of great resources and links:  https://bravado.co/academy/category/all-articles

That's a good place to start.

You'll get better engagement in the forum with specific questions.

Okay, thanks for the advice. I just joined so I’m a little unsure of where to start. I’ll start there!

One of the things I was doing in my early emails was shouting our superior price point than competitors. Do you recommend doing this or as you say “under promise and over deliver” by not mentioning it right away?

Oof.   Way too specific.

It's a blanket statement that means do your best, but don't overpromise on anything, whether it's to your management or to a prospect.

Example:

Don't say you're going to close $1M in revenue when you have $400K in your pipeline.

Don't say you'll get a quote to someone today and deliver it in three days.

@Qman- Other than the brilliant comments, try spending 30 odd minutes daily in this community. Completely worth it

Commit in forecasting to double what you think you’ll invoice.

Okay, great. I see the upside to aiming high. As the saying goes, "shoot for the stars, and you'll land on the moon." I'll put this into practice!

No please don’t. This was sarcasm. If you forecast double of what you actually deliver it will be a short time at this gig.

Get Li certificates, Salesforce trailhead badges, work on your tone, your copy skills, your product knowledge, learn how to ask great questiions, be more curious, SADNESS, watch every corpbro video, upload your mind to the metaverse. Invest into salescoaching, invest into yourself, the list goes on but you get the idea. Stay 1-3 steps ahead of all your peers and you will be unstoppable.

Extensive list but I’m looking forward to tackling all the items. I’m currently reading the book GAP Selling by Keenan. What are your thoughts on this one, if you’ve read it? Any insights on the best sales coaching? Thanks, again.

Im about to sign on with Marcus Chan, gap selling is a great fundamental, but you can always take it a step further by framing the gap in your questions and getting to the real pain with great mirroring discovery questions. Id say never split the difference is the most important book for base knowledge, as well as the badass B2B guide by josh braun

Nice. I had to get over the fear of asking too many questions in my first couple of weeks. I could hear the little voice in my head saying, "You're asking too many questions. Stop annoying him!" But I have since made progress in silencing it. Having a mentor is key.

Questions are good, as long as they're thoughtful.

Asking lots of good questions shows you're curious, which is a great trait in sales.

Just avoid lazy question (e.g. shit that you could google)

Just try to know the best value your sold product has and the best way to pitch that to the customer and all come by practice.
