Anyone else here just waiting out a bad job market?

Ive been at my job 2 years. The company is disorganized and my VP of Sales sucks. But its fully remote, pay could be better but is enough. Ive interviewed at 3 companies, didnt get two, was recommended for the market position below at one, which I declined.

Im starting to think I should just wait out this shitty market and build up tenure. I figure the longer I stay at this point the better I look eventually anyway.

In 2021 when I decided to start looking I had 5 recruiters reaching out daily, I interviewed 2 places and got my current job offer in a week. I know we probably wont reach 2021 level job market soon, but its gotta get better right?

Anyone else here just doing this?

Stay, but keep looking. Don't want to miss a great opportunity for lack of effort.

^^ This.
Be patient but not complacent. You need to get paid, and it's ALWAYS easier to find a new job while you have one.
Things seem to have gotten better in Canada, at least a little, compared to six months ago.

Yeah I'm at the point where I'll listen if a recruiter reaches out, but Im no longer applying anywhere.

You should still apply. Don't invest a ton of time but put yourself out there.

This is the way! Unless your mental health is harmed by interviewing a lot. Might as well do a couple feelers throughout, who knows maybe you find your dream role

I didnt think it was til this last rejection, but it may be a bit. Im better at selling than interviewing.

This is always the advice I give people. Only jump when you can or have to.

It’s not so much of a strategy for me as much as it is just a general hope that the job market will get better eventually and that the job hunt / interview process will become less painful as a result.

We can hope, but I see it as being rough for the next couple of years. There are a few bright spots, but not many.

Agreed. I’m kind of in the same boat as OP but I still keep an eye out for anything interesting.

Yeah, that’s a lot of people. But there was also overfiring in Q1 and now at the end of Q2/beginning of Q3

The overfiring is making things harder. For every interesting job I see there's already 100 applicants on it within a day.

Only 100? I think you need a referral for anything these days

Keep grinding and applying, but don't jump ship til you're safe.
IF you get an offer soon, be sure to vet their product, ICP, TAM, burn rate etc... don't get caught in a risky economic climate with an unprepared org.

I’m also a burning the waiting mode. However the issue is that I don’t feel like I’m learning progressing anymore

I don't have the luxury of waiting it out. I only took my current job because I was laid off and there were no other options available. I fully intended on being gone within 6 months, but I'm in monthly 8 now. So I'm really itching to find something else.

Yeah, I’m in the same boat. Trying to figure out where I can land and reaching out to all of my contacts.

Identical situation for me. Just entered the eight month in what I hoped would have been a brief stint. Any interesting job seems to be extremely hard to get, while there is an overabundance of positions open with uninteresting and/or really crappy businesses.

As much as I detest my current role, it honestly would not be a bad intro job if you were new to software sales. Cut your teeth and move on. I just feel like I'm past that stage of my career so it's a) uninteresting and b) not stimulating any growth in my skills or abilities.

Best time to look is when you have a job. Just keep at it and be selective since you can afford to.

@Rajan was it Salesforce that lowballed you with the position below what you interviewed for?

I think we talked about this in another thread but yeah they did the same shit to me. Apparently that's their go to move unless you're overqualified for the spot.

Stay as long as you can while still looking. Don’t be too active as it might get back to someone internal, and that would be bad. Always look, you never know what you will find.

same boat as you reading the comments, current org pays well but it's a dumpster fire. it's gotta turn soon though.

Has anything changed in your approach from 2021 while getting those recruiters to call you and now ? The way we approach job search has completely changed, no? Given that almost everyone in the market is looking for job.

If you've got a halfway decent gig you've got to sit tight and be patient. I've seen far too many people recently change jobs only to be laid off months later. I don' think it hurts to keep looking and putting out your feelers, but moving jobs is high risk right now.

I’ve struggling like never before to even get interviews. I’m up against 2000+ applicants for roles. If you can turn your job around, stick with it. Really tough job market right now.

Yeahh, I'm parked for now. It's tough making a list of companies I would want to go work at with the landscape changing monthly.
Maybe next year?

yeah brotha. Not staying complacent. Networking on Linkedin, sending resumes here and there. This way when the market is good again, I'm ahead of the curve with a contact list of recruiters & referrals. It's tough out here, stay strong.

It has been a tough market out there. Even when you're heavily qualified and has been doing this for decades, they still throw your Resume out of the list. I've been out of work for close to 2 months, and nothing seems to be happening until the last two weeks when recruiters started responding to me.

Biggest piece of career advice that I was never given. Every company is disorganized and a mess. Don't think that the next one will be any better.....that being said finding a good VP of sales who backs up his sales team is tricky. Only time I've ever found I good one was someone I'd worked for before.
Lets just say, if someone needs a recruiter to help fill their sales team, they clearly don't have enough good people that would be willing to work for them.
