Are tattoos frowned upon in tech sales?

I've been wondering if this is an issue for employers in the tech field. I'm young and have a lot of ink, but I'm also still very sharp, fit, and clean cut always. I'm a fashion enthusiast as well, so I dress very well. Coming from the real estate industry it has never been an issue, but I'm wondering if things are different in the tech industry. When I view some of these companies' websites it appears that most of their employees have no tattoos, or at least not visible in photos. In 2022, when mostly everyone has tattoos is this still as frowned upon now as it was back in the day?

Tech industry? You should be fine. This is an industry where blue jeans are considered business casual and CEOs have "uniforms" that are black t-shirts and fancy sneakers.

Clean, neat, presentable and providing value...you're good.

However, if the tattoos say something like "HATE" or "KILL" on the knuckles, I retract my comments. :)

You should be fine in tech.

Though face and/or neck tattoos might cause a few raised eyebrows.

I don’t think it’s frowned upon, no. Even cops have tattoos now

No. It’s not frowned upon at all, in my experience.

You should be fine.

Start thinking about getting tally marks inked on the other side of your neck now, for every tech-sales deal you close.

Prospect: What’s up with that guy? Why is he tatted head to toe?

CEO: Oh, he’s our best closer.😄

If they aren't visible in work attire it doesn't matter. I have met a few reps in tech sales with visible tattoos, some with a lot, and they are doing well. I would think it would hold you back from the upper echelons of enterprise sales where old-school professionalism is important.

No. I have visible ink and not a single comment/issue/HR or customer issue. Of course, as long as it is not too radical or political.

for sure no. You should be fine.

Assuming you dont have any on your face. That probably will still be an issue haha.

Don’t people wear pajamas to work in tech sales? Tattoos shouldn’t be an issue at all.

Kidding about the pjs (kinda). Full disclosure, I have a lot of tattoos. They’re just not visible when I’m wearing a suit to work.

No issues that I've seen. Our Exec team definitely has visible tattoos and I've had client calls where they have tattoos too. They shouldn't be taboo anymore in tech

If it limits your ability to sell while distracting the buyer during in-person demos. Sure it might raise a few eyebrows.

But not really.

I have a full sleeve, a half sleeve, and a owl tattoo on my neck. I’ve never had any issues with tattoos before in the business environment. In fact, I’ve actually had quite a few high level execs even complement me on them, or use them as a way to spark a conversation with me. I was just curious because tech is a new field for me, and after seeing everyone’s LinkedIn profiles I feel like I haven’t seen many people with tattoos lol.

Most of my colleagues have ink all over their hands, assume it won’t cause any issue

When I started in sales in 2009 (jumped ship from software development) and had an arm sleeve... it was clearly frowned upon by the ivory tower of upper management... but I could easily cover it with a long sleeve shirt. Once I started to prove my mettle more polos were worn in the office... but considering I was the top producer, they screamed in silence.

That was then. Now you're good. Everyone has em.

Face, neck, and hand tattoos may not be ideal. Otherwise, I dont think it matters.

I wouldn't have any which can't be covered up easily. Just not smart.
Nothing profane either. And if you have to ask if something is profane... It probably is.

Obviously. The comment was in jest because it’s super common anymore that people have visible tattoos.
