Building a better multi thread account

I need help on expanding a deal into multi departments for approval. What have been some of the most effective ways to loop in other executives without making your champion feel like you are going around them?

For me getting multi-threaded is first about doing great discovery to understand the business pain before going to anyone else in the company. Once I have a solid understanding of the pain and have had a good call or two understanding the impact of that pain I'm comfortable reaching out to a more senior person laying out what I know, and how I can solve it, and asking who else should be involved.

If the champion gets pissed about this, odds are this isn't that big of a business problem.

You could get the champion on board by telling them your process is to interview other departments, gather the information, then present back to them. Making them feel like they are important often gets them on board.
