Country Clubs?

Who out there belongs to a country club? Being in sales, I feel like we should reward ourselves every so often and I’ve been considering this for years. My wife is a bit opposed, but found a great spot with tennis and a pool for the kids.

I’m not looking to use the membership to sell in anyway, more for social ties. I’m 100% remote now, so feel like it could be a solid way to meet other young families… making friends in your late 30’s is hard AF.

What do you savages think?

(did some searching and pretty sure this isn’t a duplicate post, but sorry if it is!)

Do you belong to a Country Club?

Haha… I’ve been playing since I was 7 and I’m straight up awful. Really don’t think joining a club will help that.

I worked at a country club all through high school and played like 5 days a week during the summer, got down to like a 6 and loved it. Now thats the standard I have in my brain but only play like twice a year and just get pissed I cant play as well as when I was 15 haha. Its a mess but definitely join the CC, they are SICK haha

I was at a meeting once where the potential partner told my colleague she was a member at the wrong one if she wanted to get anything from it (it was a suburban club versus more of a city club where there are a lot more C suite members), but if you’re looking for more of the social aspect then why not?

That takes a solid steel spine to say to someone...but if they’re not wrong, it’s good info I guess?

There is a country club 5 minutes from us with a great pool. Zero entry, waterslide, etc. Our inlaws are members and often bring our young kids as their guests and they have a blast. We get pressured to join but the problem is the pool is only open 3 months out of the year. I just can't get over paying for a monthly membership for a place I only use a quarter of the year.

Right! My MIL tried to highlight the gym as an amenity but it's below your average 2-star hotel gym. Plus there is a monthly food minimum and the food is really bad.

Amen to all of this. My husband wants to going the one in our neighborhood but the food minimum gets me and not being able to use it for 4-5 months a year but paying. 🤯

I’ve been at Bushwood for years. Gophers aside, it’s a nice track

I'm not a member but I encourage you to become one. It sounds like it could be a fun thing for you and your fam.

We absolutely love it. We play lots of golf, but the social membership at clubs is worth it. Our son loves the pool and it’s very family friendly. My husband and I both work from home, so it’s a great social outlet for both of us. A few things to consider are if you’re under 40 you get a better deal on initiation and monthly dues (in most clubs), and currently there are massive wait lists at CCs because of Covid. I was highly skeptical at first, but it’s been amazing for us, and we would never go back

For all the reasons you listed it doesn’t sound like a bad call. I spend countless dollars on craft beers and I don’t gain any skill from drinking those.

I don't golf but I can really see how these events or sport can help draw relationships together. I can learn tho, would love to!

Same goes with tennis and all the others. One on one sessions, walk talk shit, be competitive, it's practically a chance to show yourself as person and deliver.

This would not work whatsoever with my clientele but glad it worked out for you.
