Covid Convo - appropriate or not?

I am feeling very uncomfortable about clients & coworkers discussing whether or not they are vaccinated. Even if I am aligned with their beliefs, I don't want to talk about it - it's none of their business. I actually liked what Basecamp did before as a policy before things imploded internally last month.

What are you experiencing? What are you feeling? Is it anyone's business what your health choices are - especially if you are still virtual?

I find it extremely annoying. I don't care if someone announces they're vaccinated or not, but I find it inappropriate to ask people what they've done/are doing. It's a medical procedure like anything else. Would you ask co workers or clients if they're taking medication or going for a surgery? I hope not.

A lot of people think that vaccination is just the right thing to do, and they're entitled to their opinion. But they should keep in mind that many people are choosing not to take it because of religious beliefs, a medical issue, or even pregnancy/trying to become pregnant and none of those are topics most people feel comfortable discussing with someone they barely know.

If you're returning to the office it's your companies responsibility to establish clear guidelines which hopefully include mandatory vaccinations. It's also the right of your clients and prospects who want to meet with you to know if doing so could put them and their loved ones in danger.

I can see your point, however, I would ague that someone might feel in danger if their coworker or client wasn't vaccinated.

That being said, if you're virtual, go do whatever you want. I can't catch anything through a webcam.

I’m personally sick of COVID-related topics dominating every conversation. I get having to go through some of the motions with new prospects “where you remote before COVID, do you know your model for getting back to the office, etc”

But damn, I don’t need to hear the same people say the same shit about it all the time. Some people seem too happy to bring people down to their level by complaining non-stop.

The only COVID related conversations I willfully engage in relate to people’s comfort level with things now that more in person interaction is happening. Doesn’t mean I’ll ask about their vaccination but I will ask if they would like masks to stay on or if they can come off and I’ll volunteer that I have been vaccinated when asking that question.

I'm really tired of it being the only thing many people talk about as well. I'm also tired of it being the go to excuse for prospects not wanting to entertain new ideas, conversations, or changes.

100% it just seemed to be a free ticket to complain or get out of doing something you don't want to do.

This has come up a lot recently for me and my team. All of our meetings and pitches have been exclusively on zoom, we have some prospects that have now been proposing in person meetings and we are all for it, we are quick to say we are all vaccinated and happy to meet them anywhere they like depending on their comfort level. It’s usually brings a chuckle or two from the other side of the screen.

I am B2C so unfortunately people know I am....and I know they wouldn't let me in their house if I wasn't (for the most part....)

As someone not vaccinated who definitely supports getting vaccinated I find it so annoying when someone asks me and then proceeds to layout like 27 reasons why I need to get vaccinated. It's like buddy you aren't a doctor and you have no idea why I choose to not get vaccinated you just want to spew your opinions on to someone please shut the fuck up. Couldn't agree more it's a medical procedure and I'm hopeful people stop being so nosy about it.

I am vaccinated and I still feel uncomfortable when the top is brought up. There are a few people on my team who will not get the vaccine and will be sure to share why.

Im all aboard the just let people live how they want to live train. No need to make assumptions or pass judgment.

True that. Work isn't the place to be talking about personal topics anyway. I don't want to talk to  random colleagues about their health, religion, political views, or family drama. The colleagues who I'm comfortable talking to about these things and I talk about them outside of work, not in the weekly meeting or in front of randoms.

I'm also not getting it but am fine with people who are. But of course once some people find out, they assume I'm one of those "crazy anti vaxxers" and want to get into an argument to show off their superiority or maybe because they feel it's their civic duty to convince me or something. So obnoxious.

For me it's the new "how's the weather" ice breaker. I don't really care whether they get vaccinated or not it's simply a way to start convo. What is interesting is to learn whether there are changes impact that are in the business side or macro level.

Not sure if you actually ask clients if they've been vaccinated or not but if you are I suggest not doing it. It can get into awkward territory really quickly. Asking how covid has impacted their business is totally fine though and a way better option.

Yea I totally agree with you...i don't ask about whether or not they got vaccinated but like how is the rollout going and how do they get notified. The reason it's important for me is that my company plays a role in notifing people via SMS. For example that's how you know it's your turn in Egypt and we played a huge role in that. It's like market intel for us that we can learn whther we can jump into tenders with public sector or not.
