CTO killed my hopes and DREAMS

2020, I was trying to scrape up any loose change from my prospects as the rest of us. In the distance, a wishing well full of change appeared. My SE and I had run a flawless PoV, receiving the Tech win from Dev, Ops and Security. What could go wrong? Nothing as I had engaged the CTO, confirmed budget, timeline and knew my "ballpark" was in line with expectations. The renewal of their legacy tool as told by the CTO was November 15th. Perfect, don't have to fight between Christmas and New Years to get the deal done. I get the quote out with an 11/13 expiration. Deal is good as done..... Lo and behold, after sending the quote out, the CTO responds on November 3rd that they will not be able to move forward with the contract until June 2021 due to budget constraints. I respond asking if they plan on leaving their applications vulnerable from November 15th until June, just to hear that he was mistaken and their current contract ends mid-June 2021.

I've had c-levels completely nuke everything (team, morale, etc.) by just being there and being incompetent (ie: frauds.)

Just had a call where the CIO killed the deal and dropped off the meeting when my SE joined. Turns out the guy really screwed over my SE in a previous company and has been avoiding him for YEARS.

When people ask him how he made it to being a CIO, well you see I worked really hard, took on extra work and made my available to all.ย

When he's shooting the shit with his buddies. They just promoted me to CIO, can you imagine. All I did was bullshit my way there and treat people horribly.
