demotion vs severance

If you've kept up with my (idiotic) journey, you'll know i've been

promoted, demoted, promoted, demoted, promoted again. our startup is a complete clown show, a circus. PT Barnum would be salivating over our act.

they offered me today:

  1. another demotion (which i have to apply for)
  2. 12 weeks severance

i'm leaning towards option 2. but i have to negotiate the equity piece first. 40% has vested, i'm going to ask for the remaining 60% be vested, then i plan to choose option 2.

anything i should be considering that i'm not thinking about?

UPDATE:

TOOK OPTION 2. BUT NO EQUITY ACCELERATION :(

IM FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!

Option 2 allllll day.

What else is there to consider other than if they wonโ€™t accelerate your vesting. Will you still walk if that happens?

good point..nothing really to consider if it doesn't vest. i do have some threats i could make if they refuse to accelerate the vesting. but yea option 2 is almost the biggest no brainer ever

smart point, anything else with 401k match not vesting? I would lean towards option 2 no matter what, just want to cover everything

Your equity isn't guaranteed to begin with.

Take the 12 weeks. That's music to my ears. I'm surprised they even offered that.

Glad they offered you an exit - and at least 40% of an equity package that is no sure thing is a good thing as well. I don't know how you negotiate more, but at this point, maybe they're idiot enough to let the rest vest for you.

Best of luck in your paid job search!

12 week severance. Take it and gtfo. A demotion is not worth it.

Yeah, option 2, with the sound of it IDK if the equity is something to stress about

Wow thatโ€™s such an up-down moment. Option 2 because I would be done with the surprises and rather start something fresh. 12 weeks is a good time to rest and pick a new role.

Get the heck outta there and go for option 2 absolutely.
Just a question bud if you may allow me asking, why didn't you consider leaving starting from the first or the second demotion max!!!
