Do you do it for the cash or the cred?

We all have our motivations for doing this crazy job. For me, it's about reputation, building my career, being someone people can count on. The money is really nice but it's secondary for me. How about you?

I do it for the:

Supporting your family is important, but you can make money doing all kinds of things. Sales is not for everyone.ย

Canโ€™t think of another career outside a doctor or lawyer thatโ€™s had the same income potential. At least in my experience...ok maybe a few others.ย

ย I love sales. Itโ€™s for me.ย

Yesssss but I will say this was not always my answer. When I was a fresh out the gate sales rep, the credit was equally important. Now after 11 years, just give me the money.ย

Cash. Anytime I look at leaving sales for a better work life balance without the pressure of a number, the cash is what keeps me from making the move.ย

I get it. Completely. Itโ€™s tough to walk away from the potential. Thatโ€™s whatโ€™s so hard for me. I can always make even more. ย

Tough call. I said cred but itโ€™s entirely possible Iโ€™m full of shit. The cred would be less satisfying without the cash...ย

At first I did it for the money but now, I do it because it is a lifestyle. I cannot see myself doing anything else because all the other jobs are just so stagnant.ย

Sales is so different everyday and fluid. You have a lot of control and there is no other feeling like it.ย

This is definitely a response I can get behind. I love running my own business within the business and having different conversations with different kinds of people all the time. Thanks for the great answer!ย

One of the aspects of sales which we probably all take for granted is the credit you get for closing a deal.ย

I hear from other departments all the time about how bosses will steal credit for their subordinates work. I know sales managers can do this as well but you always get to share in the glory for the revenue you bring in and that is immensely satisfying.

So true. There's nothing like the feeling of crushing it and helping your company grow because of your effort.ย

There are way less stressful jobs that can get you credit/glory/whatever. They just don't pay nearly as well.

Very true. I think it's fair to say the money plays a major component in selecting this career. That said, is that what's driving you day to day while you're in the motion of doing the job?ย

Sales has clear end goals (closing deals, quotas). Staying focused on the process to do those things is enough for me.

Early in my career it was all about the cash, every decision I made was about my pocket book. Now itโ€™s more about proving to myself all those hours I talked shit with my crew about my bosses and how โ€œI could do it betterโ€, getting rhe opportunity and excecuting on it.ย

Love this. Iโ€™m not quite at that level yet, but itโ€™s inspirational to think about being a boss thatโ€™s trying to make things better. ย

Iโ€™m not going to lie, there are some parts that are just fun as hell. Identify snd document your processes now, youโ€™ll need then as you continue to move up.ย

I try to be open and honest when I'm selling, but I don't care for the credit as much as I do the cash. I like the ability to live my life on my terms and money allows me to do that
