Holiday Office Parties

IDK about you guys but my company used to throw sick parties a few times a year. Since, C-19, everyone went virtual and spread out so now we have the equivalent of a zoom call and $20 gift card. Is your company (faking) poor, or is it just me?

Is your company doing a holiday party or no?

They were fun many moons ago. Haven't had one in years, at a couple of different companies.
Things have changed.

Previous company cancelled christmas parties long before covid, saying that they cost too much. The same year they said they were not doing annual raises anymore.

Employees pushed back saying we had multiple back to back record years and the least we could get is an xmas party.

Company pivots and decides to send boxes full of candy. Honestly looked like they just cleared out the candy aisle at dollar general and shipped it to you.

People got mad, saying this is lazy and frankly disrespectful. Company puts out an announcement saying that each box cost $400/employee.

Employees ask why we didn't get $400 instead of a box of junk food. CEO says we are ungrateful and I swear to god, wrote an email to the entire org saying that "we ruined christmas for him" because all we cared about was money.

Did I mention the guy was making $12 million per year?

Dam. Was this guy the CEO who shed 1 tear about how hard it was to lay off thousands over zoom?

Not quite a bash but not the cost of a applebees dollarita.
We're remote so we normally have a happy hour followed by a nice dinner. It's pretty nice!

We still have parties. But I also live in the free state of Florida where our governor isn't a pussy.

my company now is the first one I have had a legit X-Mas party to go to, they are fun, not an all night thing, but a nice dinner/drinks with significant others.

it is all giggles and shit until someone shits and giggles... aligned with @Phillip_J_Fry all of those got canceled (raises included as we don't have a yearly increment policy in place ๐Ÿคก) and now we get only get a shirt and a mug.

Our holiday party has always been a company lunch at the end of the month. So instead of 30m everyone gets an hour and there are some festivities such as secret Santa.

I work for a small manufacturer so shutting down production for a day or having an after hours party doesn't really work.
