How much notice to give?

I work for a European Company, originally as a contractor with a requirement for 30 days notice before leaving to a new role. this year, my company opened a U.S. entity and has made me an employee with a new contract agreement that does NOT have this requirement.

I am an Enterprise AE. what notice should I give my job in the event I find a new role?

2 weeks is standard in the US. 30 days is a lot, especially if you’re leaving for a competitor.

Because it’s a US company, be ready to be shown the door the moment you give notice.

Be thankful it isn’t UAE based. Common practice is 90 days notice to vacate a job

I didn’t know that. Imagine having to work at a place for 3 months with everyone knowing that you’re dipping

Fuckin brutal. I have some family over there and they said it’s torture. Especially if you’ve got an asshole for a boss, they tend to just pile shit on you for those last 3 months

2 weeks in Canada as well. We're often shown the door when notice is given, but have to be paid out for that entire notice period.

Not sure if the US has to pay, probably depends on the state.

I don’t think they do need to pay, so just be prepared for 2 weeks of time off with no income.

That's too bad. It doesn't really encourage people to give notice...

I’d do the bare minimum while being professional (2 weeks)

2 weeks in US. As Pachacuti said, once you hand a notice in you’ll be shown the door

Also be careful, the 2 weeks also works with them firing you.

Depends how good they were to you. In Canada 2 weeks is a standard but not legally required (I think the same in the US?), you can quit on the spot if you’re ok burning that bridge.

2 weeks but don't give notice until you're ready to be cut the same day.

2 weeks is best practice but it really depends. Okay to give less just be alright with burning a bridge and don't expect to come back to that company
