I attended the worst demo in history

and no, it was not lead by me. To set the scene, I sell a complicated product with a lot of partner solutions in the mix.

Partner demo. Simple add on. Junior SC starts with saying - here is a list of times when this product does not work. The sales rep turns out to be a BDR. Prospect asks if their company is public or private, rep responds with "what do you mean?!". Senior SC trying to save the day but is feisty and interrupts the prospect all the time. What should have taken 30 min takes 1h 20 min. My prospect is wondering what they are seeing. SO AM I. The SC doesn’t even show the main part of the product.

After the call, the BDR disappears and is nowhere to be found. SC sends a "thank you for your time" email 5h later without any answers to their questions. SC is now the rep - sends the wrong pricing. I flag it and he says - wait, is thaaaaaat how our pricing works.

Am I losing my mind or is this not ok? Any demo horror stories anyone? Make me feel better.

They call me Daddy, Sales Daddy
you need to take this to your leadership ASAP and then reach out to the prospect separately. From what you described your partner is having a mini-melt down and you're the red headed step child taking the beating.

Oh god, I would have died and taken that whole rag tag crew to the woodshed after that. Definitely escalate this internally and make sure someone is with the parter director too. Ugh ugh ugh, I can feel my soul leaving my body in empathetic cringe.

Wow! You have a call recording software? If yes, you need to find a way to highlight this call to the management. Find a subtle way of doing it perhaps!

I feel bad for you, more for the prospect.

I think I'm about as confused as your prospect must have been.

Definitely reach out to them on your own and try and save this.

That is really bad. Is this going to impact your relationship with your customer?

And I'm with everyone else, time to escalate - partner manager, leadership, who ever is in charge of the partner relationship.

Finally, and maybe you did this and the horror show happened anyway, I have a call with the partner prior to meeting with my customer to review the demo/messaging/anything we want to convey so we're on the same page. I'll do this internally as well so that my colleagues know what my expectations are for a call and we don't end up in the weeds.

That sounds like an absolute nightmare. Crossing my fingers this doesn't impact your ability to close this prospect!

Hahaha sounds like a start-up with people doing jobs they’ve never done before. “It’s sales, how hard could it be?”
