I Didn't get the SAE Role and I'm OK with it.

So, management pulled me aside today as well as each of the other candidates today to tell us the decision on who they planned to move forward with on the open SAE position. They ended up choosing 2 of the 5 that interviewed and I was not one of them. The ONLY thing that it came down to was that I only have 11 months of experience in a selling role. They now have different plans for me to expand in my current role. I tried asking deeper questions regarding that, but was told they are still working out the kinks and details.

Apparently, I scored the highest in almost every category, but the experience part. oh well.

What questions would you ask when doing internal interviews in this situation?

Was it horse shit that experience held me back or is it a blessing?

I kinda see both sides.

Its some BS to say you are the highest in all categories, but not ready to be a SAE solely because how long you have held a title.

However, I assume the other 3 AEs who have more experience will most likely complain/leave if you were picked over them.

I'm sorry to hear that, but suspect that really good things are coming for you.

As for questions: I'd be wanting details about the future plans for expansion and what they have in mind.

Ugh sorry to hear man. Thatโ€™s a bummer i really really hate when ppl use the experience excuse.

I would keep pressing them on the plans they have for you so it doesnโ€™t just fall apart.

Hold them accountable for that "expansion" piece.

Make sure they aren't just trying to get you to be a boy scout without a clear path to that SAE role.

If you really want the role, you should thank them for considering you this time then ask what you need to do to get there.

I was hired at a really good start up about 4 months ago for a SDR role that I was told I wouldnโ€™t be in for very long. Theyโ€™re gonna go public in the next year, but Zoom Info reached out to me about an Account exec position. Now Iโ€™m wondering if I should take the guaranteed route to AE or let my shares vest and get to AE at the place that took me. Usually I wouldnโ€™t consider jumping so quickly, but AE is AE.

Calling all Enterprise AE quota killers (at least 125% quota) -- What type of comp/equity bump did you get after a killer year?
