I miss Blockbuster...

Saw that Blockbuster documentary recently and was overcome with nostalgia. For some reason today I thought of Netscape Navigator and had to Google them (ironic, I know) to look at whatever happened to them.

What are some of the other bygone brands from our collective youths that you miss? Could be a brand that recently went under or one that went out in the 80s/90s.

Lets take a stroll down memory lane...

Im more upset i never went to Action Park, nicknamed Class Action park. My wife grew up in New Jersey and went and just watched the documentary on HBO Max, missed out for sure.ย

Answer your question- Blockbuster and Circuit City lol

I remember seeing the Circuit City commercials with the big plug in the building like I saw it yesterday.

I remember using my own money to buy my first stereo system there! I also remember my dad trying to haggle the salesman on the price. Haha!

The guy did come down a bit...cuz I was a cute, toe-headed 10yo boy buying his first stereo. But he definitely left money on the table. I was sold on that stereo, regardless.ย

Two easy (read "devastating") ones: Toys 'R Us andย Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. Massive childhood memories around both!

PS. Still have my Blockbuster card!

some of the best nights i had as a kid involved Blockbuster. Netflix and such made the process easier/better, but i definitely miss the old days. sad that our kids won't get to experience the joy of picking out VHS tapes at Blockbuster. simple joy.

They should really bring it back.ย  Problem is, even if they rented VCRs and DVD players along with the movies, most TVs probably aren't even compatible with them anymore!

I think it would have some business in the beginning, but the reality is that most people love the ease of Netflix and Hulu. i would be happy to see it brought back, but fully knowing it wouldn't be a long term business.ย

I have a sweet spot for Radioshack. They started folding just when I got old enough to realize I could just go there and leave with something that would work for whatever I needed like setting up an Xbox 360 to my small tv in the college dorms (Video: RCA to VGA + VGA to HDMI & Audio: Coaxial to AUX for my headphones if anyone was wondering...)ย

Blockbuster was a great time too. There was always that one staff that seemed to have seen every movie ever and could guide you through your adventures.

The last store closed here in Australia just last year. Best part of the weekend in the 90s, getting Fish and Chips then spending 45 minutes arguing with my sister over which movie to hire.ย

Blockbuster was the best. Going there on a Friday night, picking out your second choice because you didn't reserve the new release. Then spending some time looking at the candy section, only to realise that you will go to 7-11 and get 15 bucks worth of their 5 cent candies.

I miss those days.ย
