It's finally happened, BTO

CEO mandated memo, 1 day in office for anyone within 50km of an HQ.


Director requesting 2 days, rumour floating 3 mandated days to full return to office in January.


Do I pull the chute? Does my directors response mean I'm going to burn bridges by not doing two right away (rhetorical of course he'll hold it against me).


Currently looking at fully remote, I already was, but ramping now.

30~ commute in the morning 45~ rush hour home.
It's not the worst ofc but when I joined here three years ago mid-covid I was told this model of WFH was going to be permanent.
Had better offers that were upfront about office policy post-pandemic or relocation expectations.

Back in June we were told that our company had purchased a membership at the shared office space downtown that they previously used for special events (quarterly kickoffs, executive visits, etc.) and that we were going to be doing 2x a month work from that space from July forward. We did work from there first week of July, but not since. I didn't really mind it for 1-2x a month, but I really wouldn't want to do it every day. Maybe if it was a better job with better pay, or if the office furniture even slightly comfortable.

Personally, if remote work is an absolute must for you (which I tend to lean towards myself) I'd look for something else and just bear it for the time being. My willingness to work past 5 pm though would be less than 100%, and I'm probably not attending any happy hours.
