Itโ€™s official, no more non-competes!

While we all know they've been all but unenforceable for awhile, it looks like the FTC has banned them.

There are still NDAs which make sense, but glad they did something about the non-compete
and did you mean "NO more non-competes"?

They call me Daddy, Sales Daddy
This is a good thing. Wish it had been in place when I left my last company. They threatened me with their NC contract and I told them to go pound sand. BUT... they did send a nasty-gram to my new employer which made onboarding interesting.

Worked for a business process management company for 18 months, in that time alone one Dev did a contract for 6 months and spun out his own lightweight version of our product specifically for gmail, I think our company pursued him on that one. And our VP of IT spun out his own version of our product as well..also for g-suite.
I can get that working for competitors we can come to terms with, but spinning out a lightweight version of what your company does seems a little suspicious

That's very different. There will still be protections for IP/ proprietary information, I'm sure.

California and New York, non-competes were already worthless. This could be both good and bad. Good because you can go wherever youโ€™d like now bad because companies will be looking at new ways to protect IP and such that canโ€™t really be protected in an NDA

As an employee based in CA, I've had this for some time, and it's fantastic to not have to worry about being stuck or not having the flexibility to take another role.
This is great news!

Iโ€™m pretty sure we have this in Ontario as well, but itโ€™s great to see it become more widespread!
