Laid Off on Week 4

just found out from my boss that finance decided the west couldn't afford more than 1 seller (himself) so i'll be let go tomorrow. ofcourse i passed up on two other offers at the time since the VP and my hiring manager had sold me on this opportunity. they're both livid with leadership but obviously nowhere near as i am

has anyone ever heard of this happening? i'm literally in the onboarding phase as a senior AE and have already setup meetings with prospects so have more than "delivered" for someone in week 4.

any advice on what to expect from severance? apparently i'm having a chat with the people team on this topic tomorrow.

Had a similar situation happen to my uncle. Left his company of 10 years for a new shiny org, and was told week 1 that the role had been eliminated. He lawyered up and won something like 12months worth of salary based on the notion that the company should have never hired for the role if they didn't have the budget, and he incurred major financial damage as a result. I'm no lawyer, but it may be worth looking into.

I would reach out to an employment attorney. You quit another job and passed on 2 others just to have them rip it all away from you. Thatโ€™s very malicious. You may not have a case, but itโ€™s worth a phone call.

That's terrible and so damn irresponsible of the company. They should have had their ducks in a row before posting. This isn't something to figure out 4 weeks after hiring.
Are they giving you any severance?

Sorry to hear that, not sure about the severance. It happened to a few folks in my org, they just got 2 weeks severance.

Similar thing happened at my last company. They hired three new AEs, only to lay them off 6 or 7 weeks later. They had essentially just finished training. In hindsight it should have been a bigger red flag for me because I (along with all the remaining AEs) were laid off not long after.

Definitely talk to a lawyer. No guarantees, but still worth having the conversation.

Iโ€™m so sorry. You seem to have gotten solid advice. I just want to offer support. Also, have you reached out to those other companies yet? Maybe the people they hired havenโ€™t worked out, or they have something else open. Head high. This is not on you.

You should see how the contract is written and expect all of the ramp in the contract. If they push back spend the $200 to get a demand letter. You are getting screwed and they should take care of you for a little.

appreciate the load of support from this community. you guys are amazing as i'm def not feeling my best at this moment. so i only received 2 weeks of severance so i'm now started the process with providing intakes to employment lawyer offices. i countered with requesting 3 months but no word back.
it's a bit ridiculous california doesn't protect employees in situations like this. anyhow, def having second thoughts of being in ad sales i've had a successful run the past 7 years but the lack of ownership from decisions made up top (board or c-level) lead me to question whom to work for next.

I'm so sorry this happened - I can only imagine how frustrating it would be right now. Could you also see if the other two companies who were hiring, have hired ? It's only been a few weeks so there's a good chance they are still in the market looking for the right candidate.
I know it's humbling, but maybe a quick email to them could be a life saver here.
