Left job in Feb, unemployed since, should I update my LinkedIn?

So I have been told by recruiters to not update my LinkedIn if I left my job in Feb and just leave as is, I can explain it in the interviews. However, I feel like this feels really dishonest.

I am not hurting for a job right now either as I am set for the year financially and have supplemental income along with a good bit in savings to keep me alfoat.

I am more focused on the right opportunity rather than any.

Any thoughts on whether I should update that I left in Feb 2024 or just keep it as presently at an employer I am no longer at?

Just leave it. Get the nibbles. If it’s a good fit, they’re likely to understand the gap, and not care.

100%. It's pretty standard. And February was basically yesterday..

Lol. I had a bunny once. It literally showed up on our back patio. We had a ton of animals already. Nobody batted an eye at my note I left on the downstairs bathroom when I headed off to work: bunny inside, do not let the dogs in! Never found the original owner, ended up with a Giant American Chinchilla Rabbit. Named her George (you’ll get it if you’re a fan of Warner Brothers cartoons).

They can be box trained, but will nibble on cords and dig in corners, so need to be watched if you let them roam. Fun pets!

A Giant Chinchilla, now that's basically a medium size dog. I have loved my rabbit so far more than dogs I have owned.

I’ve loved every animal I ever owned. Including the snake.

Like everyone, let it be and explain on the interview, that’ll be better.

Depends. Feb of which year?

Stay flexible and appear employed as long as you can. Spin it. If necessary.

There’s no dishonesty and companies won’t call up your current employer to verify employment so I wouldn’t give it much thought

But don't they do background checks where you are asked to list all that out?

They will, however you can say you are currently employed there and check off for them not to call a current employer, it's also likely not to be a big issue

Leave it. That old saying about finding a job is easier when you have a job is true… even if it’s only on paper.

What if they ask in interviews, do I still say I am there?

Apparently LinkedIn recruiters can filter for people with current or past employment so if nothing but for algorithm's sake, keep it 'present' and show up in more search results for potential new gigs.

ps: you say "I left" which implies you resigned? If you intentionally left, why would it matter?

I thought about that as well. The Algos need to be our best friend here.

F it. Just leave it as if still employed to land more interviews. If they like you they won’t think twice about it.
