Looking to learn more

hello,

there are a lot of start-up and SAAS sales people here which is great!  however, a lot of lingo gets used here that I have a hard time following since I'm not in those industries.

Does anyone have any recommendations for content, an article, etc. that explains the sales operations of these types of companies?  Would love to learn more and follow along better, especially with some of recent news!

thanks for the help as always savages.

You know a general post with abbreviations/lingo of most common terms would be cool to have. Excellent point.

They call me Daddy, Sales Daddy
Use the search bar here extensively - odds are its been covered at some point.

Other than that, I would Google for newsletters which pertain to your industry.

Then i would do some searches for industry newsletters. But getting Sales Op explanations might be a challenge.

ChatGPT maybe?

Ha! Honestly I haven’t used it yet for anything, might be a good excuse to try it out. I’ll let you know how it goes lol.

For a better and a faster search using the search bar just make sure to use keywords like STARTUP or SAAS instead of asking the full question that may or may not include these words that might impact not getting you the results you need !

Good luck with the search.

@HVACexpert- can you toss a list of ones that you're not familiar with in your post and let others answer?

Google will always be my go to, just type out the lingo and add sales term. Gets me the answer 99% of the time

Also feel free to comment if you arent sure, lots of times companies say different words that mean the same thing

Found some external sources:

Alphabetical list of common abbreviations:

Terms grouped by context

A quick check by me (granted, it is fairly early in the morning where I am) and they both seem accurate.

If you see something, don't be afraid to just ask in the comments.

A) It makes you look social and helps you earn commission here.

B) Teaches you the acronym meaning

C) It helps the poster realize that they may be being too technical, which most of us in sales struggle with when it comes to talking to customers.

if you make another post around a specific industry or vertical and ask for ppl to share details on how it works you could get some solid feedback.

youtube might also be good for this.

Mid-Market AE
This won't be all encompassing but SaaS sales is generally broken down into two main groups - new business and growth/retention.

BDRs/SDRs/MDRs/XDR's prospect new biz and set meetings for AE.

AE's work deals from discovery to close and hand off to customer success, growth, and retention teams who then manage the account.

AE will have various adjectives (commercial, mid market, SMB, Enterprise, ETC) denoting how large of orgs they sell two which correlates with average contract size.

IF new business teams are hunters, then growth/ retention are farmers.

Their role is to keep clients happy, continuously nurture the relationship, and understand their objections so that they can help them with various challenges and grow the contract size/make the account "stickier"

There are more wrinkles (like sales engineers), but that is (broadly) the typical SaaS breakdown.

I hope that helps @HVACexpert
