Sorta New BDR, No AE Experience

Hi everyone,

Hope everyone is headed into the weekend with a big smile on their face. I'm currently wrapping up my 3rd week as an enterprise BDR and I begin hitting the phones next week.

A short backstory, I spent five months at my previous position as a solo BDR at a fresh startup (no product, no sales team, no marketing materials of any kind). We mutually parted ways and after being referred by a LIN connection to my new company, I got hired for a role that typically requires 12-18 months experience.

I'm very enthusiastic to crush it and I feel much more confident heading to the phones after spending the last few weeks training. However, I've never worked with an AE before and that's something I let them know after meeting with them. They were understanding and gave me some sense of direction, but I still opened SFDC not really having a clue on where to begin getting contacts to hit up Monday (for reference, i use Outreach for cadence tracking).

I'll be reaching out to them again next week for some clarity but I would appreciate any tips on how you all work with your AEs, especially after joining a new company and not knowing much about the product. How do you target accounts? Would you start at C-Suite or begin at lower levels then work your way up?

No, this company is public and much more established than the previous with a large customer base

Your manager should be guiding you on the basics (e.g. how to get contacts).

Find talented peers and shadow them. AE and peers can guide you on who to target.

Ask for help, they want you to succeed.

Perhaps this is what I really needed to hear. Reminder that I had no sales team to learn from in my previous job, so maybe it’s just a matter of me having to get used to reaching out for help. Thank you and @braintank for the simple yet true words!
