Hey, y'all! I'm new here and my intention was to get some advice and maybe some mentorship for my next gig.

I have a background mainly as a BDR in startups, so training and growth is typically hard to come by.

Anyone know of some tips and tricks on landing an AE role? Most companies require 3-5 years in that role already, so it's been tough.

First off, Welcome aboard glad to have you here **Dolphin Sounds**

You've come to the right place.

First step is to talk to your manager and let them know you want that ae role and what you would have to do to get it.

Next step is just applying to SMB AE roles or Junior AE roles and demonstrating you understand the AE role and what it takes to achieve it or at least that you are coachable enough and can translate what you've learned in order to get into that role

I don’t have a manager. I’m looking for a new role. Typically, I get told I’m overqualified for BDR roles, but they won’t hire me for AE roles. Quite the predicament!

So in this case it's because you're applying for cybersecurity AE roles right? also use the reply feature so we are pinged. You might have to go to a more startup smaller software company to get that AE role there was one I think it was called like firehawk or some shit im not sure but they were hiring inexpienced AE's

I apply to both BDR and AE roles. Another issue is that I do cybersecurity, so there aren’t many opps available. Hopefully this app will help me find some people in the industry!

you can translate your cybersecurity SDR experience to any other field. Keep applying to AE roles in the space like I said. if you are getting impatient apply as an AE to other industries in the SAAS space

You might want to look at startups for AE role considering you'd be making this switch now. Before you do that, please read about the market + Service + your persona you'd be talking to and most important ::: listen to negotiation tactics. These would help you land a role in AE segment.

But yeah, startup AE should be a good start.
