I'm bored on a monday so I figured to post this.
- Know your interviewer, their role, what they look for, and communicate yourself as that.
- a sales manager want to hit his revenue goals, wants someone they get along with, and someone who is reliable, consistent, and can grow.
- a recruiter wants someone who fits the job description, can clearly communicate their strengths, who has a strong desire for the job, is personable, likable, and would make them look good as a potential candidate they send up
- a AE wants an SDR who knows how to prospect, how to research an ICP, how to ask good questions, how to stay organized, how to make calls and emails, and can be teachable, coachable, and pointed in the right direction, someone who will communicate.
On and on and on. Just like in sales, you have to know your prospect, what their needs are and communicate what part of your product (or you) fits their needs.
To a sales manager I am highly coachable, extremely hard working, and know really well how to prospect and can clearly and eloquently explain my process.
To a recruiter I know exactly what I want in my next job, why I'm leaving my current one (No inside promotion, company going bankrupt, seeking higher salary), I know how the fuck to do my job, and I'm highly interested in the job they are offering, and money.
to a AE I know exactly what it takes to do their job, how much they rely on me, how to communicate to them what accounts we will work on together and how we will do that, I am their coachable, hard working, smart little slave of a meeting setter. I am the extension of them and their submissive little SDR.
2 - Know the product, company, and market.
- you don't have to know everything, but 5 minutes on wikipedia, google, Linkedin will help loads.
- see their product in motion in a video, see their competitors. Learn a little about the space, where it's heading, where it's been.
- Read about the company and what makes them different or better than anyone else
- be able to say why you think this is the BEST company to join right now, even if you don't believe it. Find a way to convince your interviewer that this company is fucking awesome and it would be amazing to work here and easy to sell because x,y,z.
- noone wants to hire a salesperson who doesn't have confidence in the company or in his ability to sell it.
- if you can bring some insights and understanding and a unique view or perspective to the market or product fit that shows understanding here you win. get the interviewer to say 'yes exactly' or 'yeah thats a really good synopsis of it, thats great' or even better "OMG yes! Thats a fantastic way to think about it I never even thought about it like that"
3- bring the energy
- show up to the call like you just got your dream car, house, spouse or whatever the fuck is your fancy and you're having a great day now that whoever is on the other end of the line.
- thank them for their time and for interviewing you and express your excitement to be there before you get into your synopsis.
- this means the weather is fantastic, you're feeling amazing, and you just got done having an amazing day or morning or whatever and you are equally interested in them. be someone they would want to hangout with.
- when they ask you 'tell me about yourself' You are a FUCKING CATCH. now don't be cocky, but go into it. set the stage for the rest of the interview because here is where you will make or break the entire thing and set up all the questions there after.
- Yeah thanks' well I'm XX, I was born and raised in xx, I went to highschool and college at xx, while doing that I also did xyz, I was raised by two xx and yy so I was really brought up on Value 1, 2, & 3 so by the time I got to college I really knew I wanted to x. Throughout college and growing up I really discovered and developed a passion for business and software and saw how I had Sales trait 1,2,3 and found myself naturally doing those so I got a job at x company where I did really well (Results) as #4 of 100 reps by *utilizing what I learned growing up or in school*, being coachable, driven, money motivated, and never taking no for an answer. I really love to bring new solutions to people who are struggling with their process. After that i did XYZ where I **Even greater achievements and numbers or a better outlook of the future** And then that brought me to here because I really am looking for my next opportunity as I manifest the financial and carreer goals that I have set for myself and i thought this was a great company to start so I am really excited to speak today and get to learn more about the role and see if I am a good fit for it. *YOU ARE EVALUATING THEM*
After that it's pretty easy to see how you set the tone, they will ask about x job, your y process, and ideas and thoughts on x prospecting or y outreach and about their company. Bring the same energy.
4- any questions? -
- here you will usually realistically only be able to ask 3 or 4 so make it count.
- the types of questions you ask show your fit. if you ask about PTO, what happens when you dont hit quota, and how the company deals with politics, it kinda shows where your priorities are at, even if these are important to you, in order to get the job the questions are still like the interview process
- show your interest in the company as a place you want to sell for, have them pitch you.
YES - I'd love to know a little bit more about you, your role at the company, what lead you here, and what you're most excited about working here?
- Awesome (resonate with them)
- Could you tell me a little bit about the culture if you could in 3 short words and why? Culture is super important to me
- What do you see as the perfect person for this role? what do they seem like, talk like, think like, act like? Who is your ideal candidate that you would love to hire? (after this question say: Okay great because I see how my XYZ values and experiences allign with what you were saying because example 1 and 2. So that's great to hear.
- If you have time ask about quota attainment on average, coaching styles, next 5 years etc.
5- close that shit
-'Okay awesome I really enjoyed our conversation and getting to learn more about the role, I feel like I am a great fit for the role but I wanted to ask you if you had any hesitations or considerations that would hold you back from giving my the green light to move forward?
At this point hopefully there is nothing but if there is then you address the objections by referring to your values, experience, results, or mindset and reaffirming to them it wont be an issue. make sure to use some of the same words they did to make them at ease and make them comfortable but if they had any objections to begin with it is alot less likely you will get the position.
Thats all
Back to my 2 jobs,
Cheers,
Much love,
The kid
p.s by all means this is not an extensive list but my first thoughts on interviewing and what I feel like are the basics, I have a full guide here: https://bravado.co/war-room/posts/how-to-go-from-jobless-to-offer-in-4-days-update-on-job-hunt-1-offer-2-next-stage-3-in-1st-stage-lfg
