Pompous LinkedIn post of the week

Thinking I might start a little weekly segment for some good old fashioned fun and discussion. My working title- Your "Pompous LinkedIn post of the week"

Here's my nomination (https://www.linkedin.com/posts/joeygilkey_sdrs-shouldnt-be-booking-any-higher-than-activity-7122605478181830656-lQMN?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop)

This guy is simultaneously trying to sound like the smartest, and "coolest", guy in the room... he misses on both fronts.

"For the non-Scholars in the room, 7+3= 10"

"for the intellects"

"Its math and laws and physics and s**t" .... no, its not.. its really just an opinion that is not backed up by research whatsoever..

Take a hike Joey, you're doing your "brand" no favors...

Lets see your nominations WR?!

P.S-- Bravado team, let me know if this type of thread is a no go and I can delete, don't want to ruffle any feathers. LinkedInfluencers just really grind my gears...

Oh no doubt, but it's a different breed of it. I think they're both best in class, for their respective classes.

Saw this post yesterday and it made me laugh. What a doorknob.

I also saw a post yesterday (I wish I had grabbed the link) that said when you're doing outbound, any research on the company/role and any personalization was a waste of time. Just blast out generic emails to anyone and everyone. Dude got roasted in the comments.

I don't think I've ever heard anyone be called a doorknob. Stealing it.

Sure! It's the only way I get cringe content from LI. I guess all my contacts are boring or something.
May I ask that you provide a screenshot as well so we don't have to click through and give any eyeballs to the post itself?

Fun fact if 3% is buying those actually also count as โ€œopen to buyโ€ so your market is 7%.

If SDRs aren't comped or measured against meetings, what are they comped and measured against? Closed won opps?

ive seen some of this guys posts before, he runs a lead gen company that pays SDRโ€™s 10(15?) dollars per call that gets put into one of four buckets, ranging from meeting booked to not interested

Calls or conversations? Sounds like a quick and easy way to make some extra cash while being totally ineffective if you donโ€™t even have to book meetings.

The part of the market that isnโ€™t ready for buying should still have awareness of your solution for when they do need it. Is that crazy??

If you followed his writing instead of plucking one post out of context, you'd realize he's not wrong.

Booked meetings don't matter. At least not as much as everyone in SaaS sales thinks they do.

Meetings as a north-star or quota metric is a product of Venture Capital incentives: Inject more money into an early stage (pre-$10M ARR) company than it needs, encourage company leadership to use its excess capital to hire more reps than it needs, then force sales leaders to justify rep productivity for its bloated team.

What is the easiest, most-short sighted metric to justify rep productivity? Not revenue - that takes too long, investors want justified progress now. Thus you arrive at meetings.

When you prioritize booked meetings, you incentivize your SDR team to shove unqualified or unready prospects into the pipeline. You lower your hold rate, qualification rate, and close rate - if the prospect even makes it to the final stage.

Instead of meetings, sales teams should prioritize completions. A completion is reaching the correct person at the correct account you intend to prospect, and completing a pitch. This way you qualify the prospect and figure out when they're most likely to buy.

If the prospect converts in 9 months after several thoughtful follow ups, that is more valuable than bulldozing them into a meeting when they don't know enough about their problem or your solution to convert.

This shift won't happen though, at least not for several years. VC incentives are too strong and the hive mind SaaS virus is too powerful. Just look at this post's comments...

Ah yes... JG. He is brazen and brash, not for everyone. Some content has value, some doesn't.
