Pushy recruiter?

Happy holidays WR Fam,
I've had a recuiter reach out to me from a fairly reputable and upcoming firm. Their recruiter booked a meeting 2 days before Christmas and then last minute moved it to today. All other factors aside, their aims are

1. 4 one-on-one interviews
2. A panel in front of 3-4 managers
3. All of the above by Jan 10th

Aside from the fact that I have prior commitments the first week of Jan, I think it's a bit silly to expect me to conduct multiple interviews as well over the last week of December. I'm feeling like this is red flag territory (ie. if this is the interview process, what is working there going to br like?). I'm going to try and make this work obviously but I have respect for my own time as well. has anyone been though this before?

Am I being dramatic?

Doesn't seem like a big deal to me. Assuming the interviews are all an hour each, which is unlikely, you're looking at a total of 5 hours of interviews in just under 2 weeks.

The only way this would be an over-the-top expectation is if they were completely inflexible in scheduling. Assuming they don't have scheduling issues, NBD.

Maybe you just aren't all that interested in working there?

They are in fact 45-60 min meetings. I wouldn’t be fussed if it was these things individually, just all of them combined I think is putting me off. Appreciate your perspective

so i answered with they are psycho, BUT

if you are really interested in this role, then its not a big deal. i like that you know EXACTLy what you need to do and by when. but if your just poking around to see whats going on, its a waste of your time.

I would communicate that concern and ask why. See just how insistent they are and if they have a truly good reason for doing it in short order.

This "all of this in two weeks" does seem a little fishy, which is why I suggest this. Depending on your own interest level and their responses, perhaps it isn't the right place.

I had asked and it’s because they want people start by Jan 30th, hence they need to get offers out a couple of weeks prior too. Feels like the recruiter’s screwed up timing more than anything else

I concur, definitely feels like the recruiter got timing wrong or doesn't have other candidates in the pipeline for the position.

For me, this means an ask for a longer timeline due to those prior commitments wouldn't be too out there. I get they want people to start by 1/30 but what's a week difference?

Make it clear up front that you're currently employed and can do what you can do. If they want you that bad they will work around it.

Absolutely, I made it clear that I’m not so desperate for this role so hopefully they understand this is a ‘work together’ situation

Take it one step at a time. If they prove to be inflexible with scheduling, that will be one indicator it may not be the best fit. I suspect they're going to end up working with you; you being straightforward about the other commitments and potential conflicts should be expected and handled reasonably. Best of luck!

Agreed, I’ve given them my availability which is pretty reasonable to accommodate. These next week or so will be pretty telling of their culture. Thanks for the tip!

I mean, how bad do you want the job they are referring you for? It’s a matter of you wanting it as bad as the recruiter does, if that’s not aligned then yeah you would be frustrated

I won’t consider it to be a big deal though it’s a bit annoying. I guess it’s too early to judge unless you have spoken to them. All the best !

If it’s really bothering you, talk to the recruiter. They will work with you.

That said, I’d guess they are just dealing with a lot of moving parts here. Nothing that out of the ordinary

I don't think its crazy for them to ask if you can complete the interviews by Jan 10th because they probably want to hire somebody quickly. But if you told them you have a prior commitment that week, they need to respect that and be flexible. If they are unwilling to be flexible, imagine what it would be like working for them.

They may be looking to fill the position as early as possible in January trying to give the role close to a full year of bookings. As long as you are up front about your prior commitments they should accommodate you.

Nope, you can just ask them to reschedule those interviews based on your own time and only if they can see you a good fit at the first interview _which I guess you are_I suppose they will show much flexibility on the following ones!

I always appreciate when companies move through the process quickly.

5 Interviews in 2 weeks doesn’t sound unreasonable at all.

Is it sketchy when a recruiter won't tell you the name of the company they're recruiting for?
