[RANT]. Funny how some prospects / customers feel so entitled when it comes to sales folks!

It's an absolute rant, so if you are going to look for logic; there's probably going to be none.

So I have been keeping sick for a while now and I also have been having a bad sales month - not a good combo. Considering it's "THE closing week", I thought of taking my meds a little late to avoid dozing off (cough syrups and shiz) or stammering on calls because of sleep.

I had 2 back to back calls. Late in the evening. One customer comes up on the call and 15 minutes into the call he hung up saying "Oh I am sorry I thought you were <competition>. I don't want to have this project with you guys anyway." and hung up! JUST STRAIGHT UP LEFT ZOOM!!!!

The second call didn't happen, because the prospect didn't turn up. No response to emails, no response to calls either. Left a VM, nothing yet. I waited for 10 minutes or so. Then I went off the bridge.

I am just absolutely pissed that prospects (Not all Prospects, I know) take the time of sales folks for granted! I know it's just a "vendor call" for them. But dude, if you want a goooood seamless sales experience, be a goooood prospect too? You are telling me the guy did not have the time to read the SUBJECT LINE of the meeting invite before joining? We usually have the company names, both ours and theirs, in the subject of the invite.

WHEN DID WE CONSIDER THIS ETHIC UNIMPORTANT, of letting people know that you'd be late / not going to make it / not need the services.

Argh. Thanks for listening.

It happens and ranting and venting out is good than keeping something within you.

Donโ€™t let anything bog you down !

totally agree with this.
the best sales ppl work hard to give a REALLY solid sales experience.
And when you have ass holes like this that just are just terrible is so annoying.

this is a situation where I would send that person an email and let them know how out of line they were. not going crazy but just calling them out.

I don't think it's impossible or even hard enough to send a reply stating they had a change of plans! It's not that hardddd!

have you ever sent out an email putting your foot down? If yes, can you tell what their reaction was?

I have never sent an email like that to a prospect. But idk if I would be very concerned about their reaction. I would say something like this.

Subject Line: I am Extremely Confused (firstname)

Body:
(First name),

I am really confused about how our last call went. I always make it a priority to respect peoples time and make sure every meeting is adding value to all stakeholders.

I also expect the same in return.

The way you abruptly left the meeting, stating "you dont want to have the project with us anyways" I find to be pretty disrespectful.

If we are not the vendor for you that is fine. We are not a fit for every organization, but I do expect to be treated respectfully no matter the outcome, and an email prior to our call letting me know your decision would have been much more appropriate.

I hope you find the right vendor for you

thanks,

idk something like that haha

I'm sorry. That absolutely stinks, and it is very inconsiderate, as well as rude.

I also hope you feel better soon!

I haven't had that happen before. Professional courtesy doesn't exist with some people.

Nothing like a good vent. No show ghosts are absolutely one of the most frustrating parts of the job.

So, most people I know did not plan on becoming a sales person initially, it just happened. So, curious to know how my fellow warriors here ended up in sales anyway ? The more interesting stories the better..!!
