Story Telling

Good morning everyone (if you read this in the morning...if not then good day ;-) ),

was doing some reading through previous posts...noticed that story telling is often coupled with slides.

My thoughts:

don't. Best feature in PPT is the use of the "W" or "B" button.

Prepping for your meeting...picture yourself sitting around a camp fire with people and talking to them. Telling them a story about where together you could be in 1-3 years...

As soon as you start PPT you loose engagement.

Have fun selling :-)

Slides should be your catalyst, not the permanent venue for the meeting.

If I never had to sit through a meeting where someone is just repeating the exact content that's on the slides, I'd be soooo happy.

Yip. That is exactly what ppt makes you do...you start using it as a prep tool, but then don't take the next step.

It's like people prepping for a speech, writing text onto note cards, but then don't condense to bullet points and then forget to memorize it and apply the personal touch ;-)

I only use slides when I cannot possibly get away without a picture. If I can explain what I need to with words, I do so.

There is nothing worse than a slide stuffed with words.

Less is more.

PPT can be really powerfull when used well. To bad most of the times it's a distraction to the story

Agreed, if it is mostly visual.
As soon as it holds more text than a subject line in an email it becomes counter productive.

Tell a story like you're talking to a 3rd grader. Simple, clear, concise. Use big words only when needed.

I hardly use ppt, it always made sense to use them when I met enterprise clients and multiple team members are joining the call.

Nice suggestion, but I still believe that adding slides ain't bad either, as I use em quite often:)
