Tell me about a dumpster fire...

It's a Thursday morning. I'm sipping my coffee and preparing to go after a dumpster fire with a teaspoon of water, some bad marketing slides, and my trusty SDR. I'll be under fire most of the day - share your own dumpster fire stories with me so I can commiserate this evening.


My story:

Distribution told me they had stock. Customer ordered. Someone else ordered faster. Distribution now tells me it will be 121 days. Customer is pissed. I am pissed. They are threatening to cancel. I am scavenging for individual pieces of a seven figure order from various channel partners trying to bandaid it back together. While getting yelled at by the customer. Cheers mates!

Went through a few month technical eval with a new logo we have been chasing for a while, multiple workshops, prospect gets ready to buy and our delivery team tells them we are backlogged well past their desired go-live date. Went from a hard commit to QO in the span of a 15 minute convo.ย

I once sat in on a customer demo win an ae, everything was going well until minute 45 where they dropped they needed a specific instance of our product on prem, which was the only product that wasn't available on prem out of our whole suite. They never mentioned that in discovery calls/I never got that confirmed.ย 

Queue awkward silence for 10 seconds and my ae/the partner who was demoing wrapping up that meeting asap.ย

Skewed Qs are the best. This way as quarter comes to a close you aren't competing for all of the legal and procurement resources.

Just don't let the customer know you are on a skewed Q and if something slips it won't have a negative impact on your Q.
