The Kahlua man hasn't had a drink in 2 weeks

This isn't really that relevant to anything but believe it or not, I haven't had a sip of alcohol in 2 weeks. As pathetic is it may sound, this is the longest I've gone without anything to drink since like my young 20's. I've learned a lot about myself in this short period. The main discovery is an elevated level of energy and higher motivation. I guess this isn't really as cool as a closed deal but for me, this is worthy of a gong strike since the last 2 weeks has been harder to not drink than almost any deal I've closed.

Just thought I'd share if anyone else is looking for some Monday motivation in any realm of life, be it your career, personal goals, etc.

Cheers,

paddy

Congrats! That's great. Look, I like drinking but there's no argument that it's unhealthy for us both mentally and physically. I respect anyone who chooses to take a break or decide that alcohol isn't for them anymore and leave it in the past.

I've really cut down on my alcohol consumption in the last year as well. There were a few too many nights of going way overboard and I didn't want it to become a habit. I feel healthier mentally and physically and it helps keep the weight off.

Much love. I've been going overboard the last few months and was using alcohol as a medicine to deal with many personal issues. Glad I'm not alone here haha

Definitely not alone. I think most people in our industry are guilty of using alcohol to medicate after a shitty day or due to stress.

Thanks for being honest and putting yourself out there. Nothing pathetic about admitting your weaknesses, we're all supportive here. Waking up early on a Saturday, feeling fresh and ready to take on the world is a better feeling than a fleeting night of drunken fun, only to waste your Saturday with a hangover.ย

I was actually wrestling with the idea of taking a month long break because I feel like once I get to that point, it will be easier to maintain a low/healthy level of drinking.ย

If you end up taking a break, my best advice is to not set a concrete date. I've found that taking it day by day is more manageable than having a 30-day type of goal. If you're ready after a month then great, but just see how you feel each day and make a determination from there when you're ready.

You're absolutely right, day by day is the way to go. Today is day 1!

Proud of you Paddy! Been cutting down on my consumption over the last several months, after going through a few years of struggling with binge drinking.ย  Feel much healthier cutting back and more motivation overall.ย

I don't remember the last time I went 2 weeks without a drink. Not for lack of trying either, so congrats! keep it up. not an easy thing to do, especially in sales.

I think sales was one of the drivers behind these habits lol

Any profession where you're responsible for generating revenue has the potential to enable heavy drinking. Just watch Mad Men

I used to love drinking in my early 20s, I bartender and would get sloshed, now the thought of drinking is nearly vomit inducing and the hangovers arenโ€™t worth it

I'm only 26, and my hangovers are like a 2 day thing now. Not fun

The hangovers is what stops me. Even with a just a couple of drinks, Iโ€™ll get a massive hangover

Congrats Paddy. It's a huge milestone and you will find each week is easier than the last. I've done a few month long periods of sobriety and always come out feeling better than when I started. It's a good way to reset your relationship with booze and get some perspective.ย

My wife and I just decided to cut out alcohol starting today! This is the kind of post I needed to stay on track... day 1 is always the hardest, haha.

Ayy good luck. There's a good daily reddit threat here:

Definitely not encouraging you to never drink again because that's not my personal plan either but it's good motivation just for people that need a break.

Thatโ€™s rough ! If its not directly from the drinking, the drinking canโ€™t be helping. Hope you feel better soon

Good for you, Paddy! Thanks for sharing. I had to take a similar break myself a few months ago, and it certainly helped me to get a better grasp on my shit haha.ย
