this could be a Linked In post. But ill keep it a WR Post

Here is my War Room post

I use to be really bad at setting boundaries with my time. I knew what time I needed to stop working, or take a lunch or be with the fam.

But if a prospected wanted to talk during those times i would ALWAYS take it. i felt like if i didnt, i would lose them. and my wife would get pissed and I would let the fam down all the time.

But ive realized that is not true and you need to respect your time and your families time more than anything.

So set fucking boundaries and think REALLY hard before you let someone over step.

If this Was a Linked In Post:

I would share some heart warming story about saving time for my sons birthday and how Jeff Bezos him self wanted a demo during my sons birthday party and I said no and now Jeff and I are best friends and blah blah blah. or something like that.

glad we have a place where we can just share real stuff.

Those boundaries are so important! Glad you figured it out and have a structure.

@TennisandSales, I discovered very late in life how important boundaries are!
Not just at work, but almost everywhere in life.

Saying a no, however cliche and small it sounds, is SOOOO important.

Saying: "Hey, can we reschedule this call? I am on PTO".
"I know we are on a bit of time crunch, but I am under the weather. Can we speak later?"

Saying "I don't think I want to know what other colleague (s) says about me; so can we talk about something else instead?"

Few phrases I am living by. Happily.

great examples! one I have had to become comfortable saying is:

"Hey I made a mistake when I scheduled out meeting. I forgot about ______ on the family calendar. Can we find a new time?"

i use to be afraid I would look stupid and made my family pay the price.
now im not perfect, but much better at not doing that,

LI isn't anonymous - WR is. That's what I love about it.

I have maintained a home office for the majority of my career. I set boundaries a long time ago:
When my door is closed, I'm not home - I'm at work. I'm not available to watch kids for any reason. Of course if someone's lung is literally collapsing, Im around. Anything less, it can wait.

I agree and I follow it strictly as well. Helped me balance my personal/social space a lot.

I swear that it makes customers respect you more, too. It removes any scent of desperation to show that other things have the ability to be prioritized over them. Will they always play second fiddle? No. But you better believe if my kid has an 11am Hot Cross Buns performance Iโ€™m not going to be anywhere else.
