VC vs Software Sales

I have offers out of undergrad for software sales and venture capital analyst / associate positions. I enjoy both industries and they both pay well. I know VC has a lot of upside in the long term but I would like more advice on which industry to pursue.

If I could break into VC, without going to get my MBA, I’d do it in a heartbeat. I’m too far down the road at this point to make the switch.

I cant say I know alot about the VC world. BUT

you can ALWAYS break into sales in some capacity down the road. I do not feel like its the same with VC.

Take the VC path if you are truly interested, you are young enough that if you dont like it after a few years you have solid experience and can still get into sales.

VC because of the long term exit opportunities, connections and I love technology. I enjoy learning and I feel like VC you have to always be reading reports on industries, companies etc. Software sales though I may make more in my early career.

As an outsider this sounds like you have your mind made up. We don't need to grant you permission. 😉

Imho this really depends on where your interests are. I think VC will give you more long term options and is marketable in a different way then sales. I love sales. I eat this shit up. But right out of school… I would go VC for long term potential career paths.

Personally I would take a strong look at the VC side of things. I don’t know what the money is like for either for you, but the things you’ll learn in the VC environment will benefit more throughout your career than an entry level sales job will. That’s my 2cents ( now worth 7cents due to inflation)

Barrier to entry seems high, but VC has more long-term benefits and potential.

Take VC and you have the foundation to go anywhere. Do it

VC, easier to move into sales later on, not the other way around.
Source: trust me bro
But for real: I've worked with VC Analysts that made the move years later, after failing to become managing partners, but having made good bank as Sr Analysts at funds that performed well.
