Walk and Talk

Is walking meetings a thing? Does it affect sales calls? Any opinions?

I have a walking treadmill under my desk (sit/stand) I use it during internal meetings.

I'm not a douchebag I swear (kind of) - I live in Canada and I hate the fucking cold.

If you are a prospect who is buying- it’s acceptable. Do anything you want. If you are in sales (looking to make a sale), you will look like an absolute pile, and as if you are taking the call from the road/not taking them seriously. (Note: I sell deals 100k-1million dollars and my clients don’t /won’t put up with that bs)

Never with customers, but I’ll do walk and talks occasionally with my manager for our 1:1s.

I like that approach! Still gets you outside but if the connection gets bad etc. you don't mess an important deal up.

No. Your focus should be on the client. Why would you want to distract them?

A walk & talk is where you facetime or simply have a call with someone whilst going for a stroll outside. Walking improves creativity and mood according to studies. Thus, I was wondering if someone has tried do in sales calls already with a "walk and talk".

Thanks for the explanation.  I'd not heard of it.

On the fence with this one.  If you're out and about and not in person, it could give the impression that your customer isn't your primary concern and not a priority.   It also seems a bit forced:  a standard call is no longer enough, we're trying far too hard to be different and inventive, and this is what we've come up with.  The other thing is that it's really annoying for other random people who are out and about as well to hear you as you have your half a conversation with someone else.   The last thing I want to hear when I'm personally out is hear someone else's business discussion.

On the other hand, if your customer wants to do it and proactively asks, I have zero concerns outside of the one above, possibly annoying others who might just want to be out for a quiet walk and here you are.    I will answer customer calls when I'm out for my walk, with apologies that they caught me taking a break.  That has never seemed to be an issue  - but it's also not something I've deliberately scheduled.

I do my 1x1s as walk
and talks. Any internal meeting without a presentation is perfect for this.

Also connecting with a colleague works, though I try to stay at places I’m likely to be alone so I don’t disturb others who are out and about.

Like an actual meeting meeting? Prob not. But if a client calls and wants to chat (about a job or potential sale) then by all means. Open and communicative relationships are the best. Depends on company culture, and your sales style I suppose.

Do you go for walks for breaks or are you a runner? I love work from home, too, but my steps number is pretty horribly low

Honestly I feel more creative while walking. Look up Huberman Lab on YouTube. He has great neuroscience advice for the common person. I forget the reasoning but walking is great for conversations.
