Was my champion laid off?

I am working a deal with a big company that just experience layoffs.

There's more than one person involved on the negotiation and I got a champion that has been great.

Got the idea it sending an email off the main thread to let him know I saw the news and wanted to hear if him or the team were affected. Do Y'all think something like that is alright?

A few months ago someone from involved in the negotiations was fired and I found out after an email bounced.

That's natural. Just call and be a human being.

Calls like this go very far on the relationship building side of things too. Shows you get it and are being cautious / considerate.

I'd call them or send them a fresh crisp new email that is only about them, not the deal 😉

I had something similar happen in a deal I'm still working, my champion was let go? or resigned for another role. The only reason I knew was because her boss emailed me on the chain of emails, and cc'd in a new person to talk to.

I still reached out to her via LinkedIn and asked for time to chat, and she gave me a lot of good insight, I helped connect her with an internal resource that's hyperconnected in her vertical.

moral of the story, is go right to the source.

On a separate note, while I don't know your deal, layoffs aren't a great sign of a good deal unless the value is compelling. Wishing you the best though!

"If you are in need of another champion, consider looking within the company first and reach out in concern for the champ who lost his job, not the deal; it will come up for sure. Make sure to contact the champion if possible and express your concern. Apologize for hearing about their situation. They will likely know that you are curious about the deal, so let them bring it up."

Never hurts to back channel with some empathy/sympathy first, followed by how asking if you can help them in anyway and ask what's going on
