What Should I Do?

Hello all,

Recently joined a late stage startup back in April for my first AE role. Then in August, they laid off people from MM and instead of laying off those of us in SMB, they put us on a sales team for a company they acquired back in 2020. Said company has been struggling to fill those positions for about a year. The company is a complete mess... Less than 10% to goal heading into Q4 and not one OB deal closed this year. Should I be looking elsewhere only 8 months into the role? I have done everything I can to get back to the parent company, but have been told they won't know about headcount until Feb and even then it is not looking good. Keep in mind my average tenure at my past positions is 1 year. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Should I leave?

Yes, but - you're employed in a down market. Look for your next role while continuing to hustle.

Since you mentioned you're already interviewing, seems like you're on the same page. :)

Definitely keep your head down and work hard, but probably best to also look and see if you can exit.

Do you feel happy about what you are doing? What you are earning?

I personally don’t want to struggle with struggling companies if there’s are no thought leaders or action plan.

Despise who I am working for, the product is ok but the company has no idea what they're doing for a sales motion. I am currently interviewing since I found out they have cut some heads in EMEA. Thanks for your POV!

really was looking for confirmation that I am making the right choice. Tenure has been the elephant in the room for all of my interviews.

Well, honestly, you are not doing the job you were hired to do. If you were still at the original company and not moved to another company, you wouldn't be looking. If the tenure question arises, the answer is that straightforward.

I would go to RepVue.com and look at the top org list and go to each company's site and look. A lot of good companies won't post their jobs to glassdoor or LinkedIn because they don't have to. LinkedIn jobs has dwindled away a bit I think due to the market. I wish I had some better leads for you.

Are you happy where you are? If not, like others mentioned just use the time to find something that will. Kinda shitty what they did but at least you still have a job. Good luck!

Is everybody struggling on the team and have leadership indicated that you might be in trouble. If not it might get better once they get the new company organized and if you hang around it could lead to a good position. At the same time it doesn’t hurt to be looking for other opportunities while you have a job.
